ID: Dhaka City: 134
Martyr’s Profile
Mohammad Saiful Islam Shanto was a dreamer—a socially aware citizen, a loving father, a responsible husband, and a selfless patriot. Throughout his life, he chose a path of simplicity and honesty. Born on September 3, 1998, in Dhaka, Shanto grew up with a gentle, courteous, and generous nature. His family resided at Holding 113/K, Burirmore, Mirhajirbag, Ward 1, Dhaka South City Corporation.
Career & Background
Shanto was a working professional and also a small-scale entrepreneur. He worked at Manha Knitting Factory in Gazipur. His father, Abdul Matin, was an experienced businessman, and his mother, Nilufa Akhtar, a devoted homemaker. Love, integrity, and responsibility were values passed down through generations in their household—values Shanto embodied perfectly. He married Falguni Yasmin Jhuma, a BBA student now devoted to caring for their newborn child.
Character & Beliefs
Shanto was a silent pillar of strength for the oppressed and marginalized, never seeking the spotlight but always offering quiet support. His friends said, “Shanto’s heart was like an open-door house—anyone could seek refuge there.†He was cheerful among friends, devoted to family, and uncompromising in his love for the country.
2024 Mass Revolution & Shanto’s Vision
July 2024 marked the birth of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s history—a mass uprising against prolonged injustice. On August 5, the people’s resistance forced Sheikh Hasina to resign. This awakening represented hope for Shanto—a vision of a just, liberated, democratic homeland. In his eyes glowed the promise of a new dawn and a heart full of courage.
On August 5, 2024, at 4:30 PM, Shanto answered a phone call and stepped outside—unaware it would be his final departure. Within minutes his family received terrifying news: he had been beaten in Jatrabari. His brother and brother-in-law rushed him to Dhaka Medical—but hospital staff said,
“No one named Saiful Islam Shanto is admitted here.â€
They were directed to search the morgue. There they found a horrifying sight: Shanto, bloodied and motionless. The man who once laughed filled with life now lay silent. Witnesses later revealed that panicked students, mistaking him for a supporter of the ruling party, had beaten him to death in a tragic error.
• Fahim, Shanto’s childhood friend, said:
“Shanto was a heart so rare—he never refused help. To him, everyone was family. His death isn’t just a man’s death—it’s the end of an ideal.â€
After his death, Shanto’s wife, Falguni Yasmin Jhuma, lives with their one-year-old son Muhammad Jawad in her in-laws’ home. Shanto left behind some family savings, a home, and small business income—but money cannot replace his presence, his love, courage, and moral strength.
Let the sacrifice of Martyr Mohammad Saiful Islam Shanto not be forgotten. His memory deserves state-level protection and commemoration.
Shanto was a warrior who fought quietly. He could not be bought, broken, or silenced. Though he has gone, his story, written in blood, will echo in every grain of this land, every act of protest, and every new sunrise.
Martyr Shanto, your blood will not be in vain. You live on in every heart that loves justice.
