Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Early Life and Family Background
Md. Jony was born on February 28, 2006, in the village of Baluya Dighi Par, under Sonargaon Police Station, Narayanganj District.
He came from a middle-class family of limited income, yet full of love, compassion, and hard work.
His father, Md. Yasin (49), was a garments cloth trader who had previously run a small shop at Banga Bazar in Dhaka.
He worked tirelessly to support his family despite financial hardship and the heavy burden of responsibility.
His mother, Mosammat Parvin (46), is a homemaker. She took care of the household and devoted herself to guiding her children in morality, education, and good character.
Jony’s family consisted of:
Elder brother: Md. Rony (22), an employee
Elder sister: Sumaiya Akter Riya (24), married
Younger sister: Suraiya Akter Keya (18), student of class 10
Youngest sister: Sanjida Akter Rittika (14), student of class 7
The family’s monthly income was about 10,000 BDT, mainly from his father’s small business.
Despite hardship, the family was bound by affection and moral strength.
From a young age, Jony was known for his sense of responsibility and compassion.
He could not complete his formal education because he started working early to support his family financially.
Professional Life
From his teenage years, Jony took on family responsibilities with remarkable maturity.
He worked as a bus helper on the Chattogram–Sonargaon route, under Naf Paribahan.
His daily tasks included helping passengers, ensuring their safety and comfort, and maintaining order inside the bus.
Despite his young age, he was diligent, responsible, and sincere.
He worked not only to help his family but also to uphold his own moral values.
Passengers often praised his honesty, sincerity, and sense of duty.
Jony was known as a brave and devoted young man among his coworkers and neighbors.
Background of the July Movement
In July 2024, Bangladesh witnessed a massive youth and student uprising — known as the Anti-Discrimination Student and Youth Movement.
The movement became a symbol of national resistance against inequality, injustice, and corruption under the oppressive rule of the killer Hasina regime.
It began among ordinary students, college and university youth, and the general public — all united by frustration over systemic discrimination, lack of fair job opportunities, and state oppression.
Educational institutions erupted with protest slogans like:
“We reject injustice; we demand equality!”
The movement transcended campus boundaries and became a national struggle for justice and dignity.
Students and youth across cities and villages joined processions, fully aware that standing up for justice could cost their lives.
Jony, a conscious and courageous young worker, understood the gravity of this movement.
He realized that his participation was not just for himself — but for justice, fairness, and the future of students and workers alike.
His moral courage and deep sense of social responsibility inspired him to join the protest, overcoming all family and financial constraints.
Jony became one of the many young souls who believed that truth and justice are worth any sacrifice.
Participation and Injury
On July 20, 2024, Jony joined the protest march near Chittagong Road, 10-Tala area, Narayanganj.
To suppress the movement, the police opened fire — even from helicopters.
At around 5:30 PM, a bullet hit Jony in the back, piercing through his ribs.
Amid the chaos and heavy gunfire, people struggled to rescue him.
Even in severe pain, Jony stood firm and refused to flee.
His wounded body became a living symbol of resistance.
Martyrdom and Burial
Within just 15 minutes of being shot, at around 5:45 PM, Jony embraced shahadat (martyrdom).
Due to the police’s brutality, it was difficult for locals to recover his body immediately.
The next morning, his family brought him back to their village in Baluya Dighi Par, where he was laid to eternal rest.
His funeral was attended by family members, neighbors, and coworkers.
The entire village mourned deeply — Jony’s death left a void not only in his family but in the hearts of all who knew his courage and sacrifice.
Family’s Statements
Father (Md. Yasin):
“My son is our pride. His courage inspires us every day. I demand justice for his killing.”
Mother (Mosammat Parvin):
“Jony was our pride and our hope. Without him, I feel empty inside every moment.”
Final Reflections
Md. Jony was innocent, courageous, and just.
He gave his life for justice, equality, and the rights of the people of Bangladesh.
His life, courage, and sacrifice will forever inspire future generations.
He proved that even the youth from a modest background can stand tall for truth and justice — and illuminate the path of the nation with their martyrdom.
