On December 21, 2003, Md. Shahajahan was born in Bhalukapara, Ghoshgaon Union, Mymensingh. His mother is Mosammat Sajeda Khatun (40), and his father is Mohammad Millad Hossain. In Mohakhali, Martyr Shahajahan was employed as a laborer in a carton factory. He was shot on his way back to work on July 19, during the quota reform campaign, after eating lunch at home. He passed away at around one in the morning after being admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Background of Martyrdom
Every nation has a few memorable and important days in its life. Similarly, "July Revolution 2024" is a newly added memorable and important day in the national life of Bangladeshis. This revolution, with its unforgettable saga of students and the public, has touched a new milestone in the struggle for rights. Revolutions like the French Revolution or the Bolshevik Revolution, memorable in world history, were established on the blood of the common people. These revolutions occurred due to inflation, exorbitant prices of goods, widespread repression and torture by the ruling group, and deprivation of freedom of speech. Similar reasons were prominently visible in the July Revolution of Bangladesh. The autocratic administration of the murderous Hasina had established a reign of fear and terror throughout the country. The whole of July was turbulent with protests and struggles to end this unbearable situation. On July 19, during this turbulent period, Shahajahan was shot in the afternoon on his way back to work after having lunch at home. He died around 1 am while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. According to the doctor on duty at the hospital, Shahajahan was shot twice in the chest, slightly below the center, and once on the upper part of his left wrist. He had to have 30 stitches during surgery after being admitted to the hospital. There were also several holes on the lower left side of his back.
Difficulty in Getting the Body The nation was just a few days away from becoming independent for the second time on July 19. Everywhere you looked was the deadly Hasina government's crooked administration. Sajeda Begum, his mother, hurried from Dhopaura after learning that her son had been shot. In addition to having to go through a lot of hardship to retrieve her son's body, she had intended to depart the cursed city with her healthy kid. The distraught family claims that 41 hours after their son's passing, they received his body. They had to visit the police stations at Banani, Tejgaon, and Shahbag. According to them, "Not just once, but after the autopsy, the body was found after seven rounds." According to a family member who accompanied Shaheed Shahajahan's mother, they were sent to the Dhaka Medical College police outpost on Wednesday, the day following his passing, after submitting a GD at Shahbag police station at around nine in the morning. After three or four hours of waiting, they were taken to the Banani police station. Around 2:00 pm, they were transferred from Banani police station to Tejgaon police station.
From there, they were again asked to go to Banani police station. When they went to Banani police station, an SI came to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with that relative. He left the paperwork at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital outpost around 8 pm and asked them to contact Shahbag police station. When the relatives went to Shahbag police station that night, Shahbag advised them to go to Banani police station on Thursday morning. At this stage, when they went to Banani, they were again asked to go to Shahbag police station. After arriving here, the OC of Shahbag police station said that their work was done and they should go to Dhaka Medical College. There they saw that the paperwork was being prepared to hand over their son's body. The relatives of the martyr claim that they had rented an ambulance on Wednesday to take the body, and they had to pay 6,000 Taka after being kept waiting all day. An ambulance was rented again on Thursday. After bathing and preparing the body for burial, Shahajahan's body left for his village at 5:30 pm on Thursday. The body was taken to his village home in Bhalukapara, Dhopaura, and buried at night.
Reactions of Friends and Family After the Martyr's Death Sitting next to her son's body, mother Sajeda Begum was crying and saying, "The bullet has taken away all my dreams. I had to endure pain every moment even to get his body. May even enemies not have to endure such suffering."
