Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Introduction
Imran Hossain was an ordinary man but a symbol of extraordinary sacrifice. Born in the simple family of Chopoi Mohanpur village, Mushli Union, Nandail Upazila, Mymensingh district, he moved to Taragach area of Gazipur with his wife and 18-month-old child for livelihood. For nearly seven years, he worked tirelessly in a garment factory. Though his life was like a machine’s routine, his heart was dedicated to the fight for the liberation and rights of his people.
How He Became a Martyr
Imran was among the brave souls who fearlessly joined the July 2024 mass uprising. On 18 July 2024, a dark day in Bangladesh’s history, Imran and his colleagues marched in Gazipur protesting dictatorship and oppression. They believed the country was theirs — built with the blood and sweat of its people — and it was their moral duty to resist injustice. During the protest, law enforcement opened fire suddenly. Imran suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, back, eye, and other parts of his body, and fell to the ground. Fellow protesters rushed him to a local hospital, but fearing state harassment, he could not stay long. Forced to leave the hospital at night, he started a lonely, silent battle for survival. Though he underwent treatments and bullet removal, he never found relief from pain. Carrying the wounds and scars, he continued to fight for his family’s survival, protecting his child close to his heart. Yet the wounds ran deeper than the physical — he bore an unspoken mental anguish. For nearly a year, he lived with death beside him. Ultimately, worn down by pain, he passed away on 13 June 2025, around midnight, at his rented home in Taragach, Gazipur.
His lifeless body was brought back to Chopoi Mohanpur the next dawn. A silent grief enveloped the village. On 14 June 2025, at 2 PM, he was laid to rest in the family graveyard. His mother, father, wife, child, and the villagers wept, still unable to believe he would never again walk through the homeyard.
Significance and Legacy
Imran Hossain is not merely an individual for us — he is a symbol of courage, of firm resistance against injustice, and the voice of the oppressed. His sacrifice reminds us that there are still sons born on this soil who do not bow their heads even with bullets in their chests. The democracy and dreams of justice embroidered with the blood of martyrs like Imran will one day be realized. With this hope, we tell their stories, remember them, and pass on their unforgettable legacy from generation to generation.
Family’s View
Imran’s wife, Rita Akter, shared that though injured in the July war, Imran never complained. He often said, “We have got a new country now.” Even during severe illness, no one cared or provided the needed treatment due to lack of money. Others who were injured or killed received government funds, but no one cared for her husband.
His father, Islam Uddin, said, “He fought bravely and got injured. Now the government says they will support, but for 11 months, no one came to ask after him. He came home sick during Eid but left the next day, saying he would fix the house if he returned. But he never came back.”
Neighbor Khokon Mia testified that Imran had multiple bullet wounds on his chest, eye, and other parts, but his health deteriorated due to lack of treatment. Imran was too proud to seek help to get his name included in any official list.
Statements from Officials
Coordinator Ashikin Alam visited Imran’s home on 14 June 2025 and confirmed from medical documents that Imran was indeed a July fighter. Though not officially listed, they plan to apply for his recognition.
Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Commissioner (Land), Md. Faizur Rahman, also visited and confirmed the evidence of Imran’s injury during the July movement.
Closing Remarks
Imran Hossain stands as a burning example of the marginalized groups excluded from opportunities, who took part in the July uprising. A garment worker, Imran’s name did not make it to the list of the injured, nor did he receive proper treatment. For nearly 11 months, he bore his wounds alone in his home, enduring great suffering.
