His father, Mizan Uddin (65), and mother, Rahela Khatun (55), lived in the village, while Martyr Raju and his wife lived in Board Bazar, Tongi. Besides supporting his own family, he also sent some money to his parents. Two families were supported by one person's income. That man also sacrificed his life for the country on July 20th.
Background of Martyrdom
The entire nation was inspired by the self-sacrifice of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a brilliant student of the English Department at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur. Bangladesh was in turmoil due to the raging movement. A ray of light appeared before the people oppressed by the autocratic rule. People from all walks of life took to the streets. Shaheed Md. Raju Mia, a hotel worker, also joined this movement.
On July 20th, he was also on the streets with his comrades. At 12:30 pm, the murderous Hasina's henchmen killed him with five consecutive shots. He was shot in the right and left sides of his chest, in the head, and twice in his left hand. The people took his bloody body to International Medical Hospital. The doctor on duty declared him dead.
Harassment Regarding the Body
Even after killing Shaheed Raju, the killer force was not satisfied. They took his body along with four other bodies. The family members started running around for the body. The army informed them that the body was at Tongi West Police Station. When they went to the Tongi police station, the police administration denied it. From then on, the suffering continued to increase. The body could not be found in any way. The headline in the newspaper read, "Family Demands Return of Deceased Raju Mia's Body." Still, the administration did not budge. Shaheed Raju Mia's body has not been found yet. The henchmen of the murderous Hasina so brutally killed him and then disappeared his body.
Reactions of Friends and Relatives After the Martyr's Death
The most despicable autocrat in the history of Bangladesh, the murderous Hasina, killed Shaheed Raju and disappeared his body. Despite all efforts, his parents did not receive their son's body. His father, Mizan Uddin, and mother, Rahela Khatun, were mentally broken down by this. They could not even see their son's face before his death. They could not bid him farewell. His wife, Rehena Khatun's condition is even more pathetic. She repeatedly breaks down in tears looking at the martyr's picture. His parents and wife demand that they at least find Raju's body or grave. They also demand that the killers be brought to justice quickly.
