Martyr Saiful was born on January 1, 1987, in the village of Chakdhakir Kanda, Rahimganj Union, Mymensingh. His father, Md. Toyeb Ali (67), is a farmer, and his mother, Rokeya Khatun (62), is a housewife. Martyr Md. Saiful Islam, a rice trader, is the father of three children. His wife's name is Josna. Saiful embraced martyrdom on July 20th at 2 pm due to police gunfire.
Detailed Information about the Martyr
The roof of day laborer Md. Saiful Islam's (37) house leaks. He wanted to break down the dilapidated house and build a new one. For this, he went to the market to sell rice. He was supposed to buy mangoes for his little daughter after selling the rice and return home, but that never happened. Saiful returned as a corpse. He died after being shot during a clash surrounding the quota reform movement.
The deceased Saiful Islam's home is in the village of Chak Dhakir Kanda, Phulpur Upazila, Mymensingh. He is the son of Toyeb Ali of that village. Saiful used to cultivate a small piece of land by mortgaging it. He also supported his family by working as a day laborer. He was the third of five brothers. According to his family, during a clash on the Phulpur-Mymensingh road in Amuakanda area on July 20th at noon, a bullet hit Saiful above his right eye and pierced his head. He later died.
Rahima Akhter, Saiful's wife, has been plunged into an endless sea of sorrow with her children after losing her husband. In a tearful voice, she said that her husband had gone to the market that day with rice. When leaving, her youngest daughter had asked him to bring mangoes. He was supposed to sell the rice, buy mangoes, and return home. But her husband returned home as a corpse due to police bullets. Relatives say that after Saiful's death, his grandfather, Aftab Uddin (80), passed away on July 23rd. He also died unable to bear the death of his grandson.
Farmer Toyeb Ali buried his son and then his father in the Graveyard, carrying their coffins on his shoulders. He says that his being alive or not is now the same. His innocent son was shot and killed. He demands justice from the government for this.
Saiful was the father of two daughters and a son. His eldest daughter, Mim Akhter (6), is in the first grade. His son, Ramim Hasan, is 4 years old. His other daughter, Saima Akhter, is 2 years and 4 months old. Our information collector says, "Little Ramim Hasan was seen in front of the house. He was eating ice cream. He has not yet understood that his father has passed away."
Saiful's younger brother, Shahidul Islam, went with him to sell rice that day. He was right next to Saiful when he was shot. Shahidul said that at around one o'clock, they were at the rice market in Amuakanda Bazar. They were discussing the price of rice with the trader. At this time, a commotion started. Before the rice could be unloaded from the vehicle, a bullet suddenly hit Saiful above his eye and pierced his head. He was quickly taken to Phulpur Upazila Health Complex. The doctor there advised them to take him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Saiful was martyred on the way to the hospital. Later, his body was brought home.
Shahidul further said, "There were only police there at that time. The police were shooting. Who can we go to for justice? Is there any justice? The police are shooting, who can we file a case against?"

Md. Mofazzal Hossain (neighbor) said, "He worked as a day laborer. He was a good man. He spoke to everyone with a smile. He offered his five daily prayers."
