Shaheed Abdullah Al Mamun was a garment worker. As a worker for labor welfare, he participated spontaneously in all movements and struggles. On Monday, August 5, 2024, when the murderous police fired on the victory procession, he was caught in the surprise gunfire. Two bullets hit his body. One hit his left hand, and the other hit his stomach, impacting his kidney and exiting through his back. He died shortly after.
Context of Martyrdom
Garment factories are a means of building mountains of wealth for the countries affluent. All the world's inequalities seem to be established here. Nowhere else in the world is such reckless and unethical use of cheap labor seen. Garment workers are like the scars of modern slavery. To survive, millions of people are forced to labor here unwillingly. Nowhere else does the owner's fortune change as quickly. A garment factory turns into two, and two into twenty; the owner becomes extremely wealthy, but the worker's fate remains unchanged. These people, who grew up amidst lifelong inequality, are well aware of the intense suffering. That's why the mention of resisting inequality ignites fire in their blood. They come forward, leaving behind all attachments. Shaheed Abdullah Al Mamun, a low-wage employee, was also a garment worker. He was also an active worker for labor welfare.
Therefore, he had been involved in the anti-discrimination student and public movement from the beginning. With the movement and struggle over, the killer Hasina fled to Delhi, leaving her accomplices to face the wrath of the freedom-seeking students and the public. People across the country were celebrating with processions and slogans. Shaheed Abdullah Al Mamun participated in the joyful procession with the jubilant crowd. This procession was unbearable for Hasina's loyal police and the worst terrorist student organization in Bangladesh's history, the terrorist Chhatra League. They launched a surprise attack on this victory procession. One bullet hit Mamun's left hand, and another pierced his kidney and exited. Shaheed Abdullah Al Mamun went into eternal sleep, leaving his wife and children orphans.
Reactions of the Martyr's Relatives
He was everything to his mother, wife, and three children. Abdullah Al Mamun was the sole refuge for fulfilling everyone's demands. He worked tirelessly to bring smiles to everyone's faces. He always tried to keep them happy within his means. His death has erased the smiles from the family. They seem to have become ill-fated. Their faces are filled with sorrow at the thought of the future. The family and children demand that their father's killers be found and brought to justice.
