On August 5, after the country was liberated from autocracy, he participated in a victory procession in Azampur, Uttara. When the murderous police fired indiscriminately at this procession, several bullets hit his body. One bullet entered through his left eye and exited through the back of his head. He died on the spot shortly after.
Context of Martyrdom
Education is the backbone of a nation, and students embody that education. If the new generation is well-educated, the future country becomes more developed, prosperous, humane, and beneficial. Unfortunately, as a nation, sandals are sold in air-conditioned rooms here, and books are sold on footpaths. And the condition of universities is even more dire. Very low-quality food, no place to stay, crowded living in common rooms, sometimes living with polythene sheets on the veranda, victims of ragging, control of terrorists in the name of politics, torture cells to suppress opposition, free meals, seat trading, question paper leaks and trading, a completely chaotic situation. On top of that, the quota system was imposed as an additional burden. The anti-discrimination student movement was formed around these issues. It was a do-or-die struggle for the students. Students and the public from all levels participated in this movement spontaneously. The ever-lively, enthusiastic, and talented son, Shaheed Nazim Uddin, was an active participant in the anti-discrimination student and public movement.
August 5, Monday. The day of the fall of the autocratic Hasina government. It was also the day of liberation for the oppressed people of this country. News of Hasina's escape brought waves of joy everywhere. Shaheed Nazim Uddin also participated in the victory procession to share in this joy. But the police force, skilled in terrorism and brutality, started firing indiscriminately on the innocent and unarmed students and public in that victory procession. Due to the murderous police's indiscriminate firing, people fell on the streets one after another. Several bullets hit Shaheed Mohammad Nazim Uddin's body. One bullet entered through his eye and exited through the back of his head. Due to excessive bleeding and torn brain nerves, he died on the spot shortly after.
