Md. Rahul

Martyr Md. Rahul was a son who brought solace to his parents' eyes, and at the same time, a young man who protested against injustice. He was born in Bajitpur Upazila, Kishoreganj. In Patuni, a village there, Shahid Rahul came into the world on May 10, 2002, illuminating the laps of his father Mizan and mother Ruma Akter.
Rahul was a very polite boy. From his childhood, he had a reputation as a simple, honest, and virtuous person among his family and locals. He was loved by everyone. Rahul crossed the boundaries of primary and secondary education and got admitted to college. He was a student of Bajitpur Government College. To cover his educational expenses in a poverty-stricken family, Rahul went to Dhaka. There, he worked in a shoe shop. Besides his own education and living expenses in Dhaka, he also provided some financial support to his family. Rahul was the light of hope for his family.
The Incident of Martyrdom
On July 18, the anti-discrimination student and public movement was gaining momentum. The movement was being observed all over the country. The protests were intensifying. The government was trying to suppress it everywhere with strict measures. Indiscriminately, people were being killed like birds with gunshots. The government shut down the internet service across the country to suppress the movement. Protesters were unable to communicate with each other nationwide. Everyone was trying to continue the movement at their own vital points.
At one such point, Md. Rahul joined the movement in front of Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka. He raised his voice in the anti-quota movement along with the students and the public. But the murderous police of the autocratic Hasina fired tear gas shells at the freedom-seeking students and the public. Rahul started having breathing difficulties due to the intensity of the tear gas. With the help of his fellow friends, he was taken home. But his physical condition started to worsen. He was taken to Zahirul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur. There are allegations that he did not receive proper treatment there. He was even shown fear and intimidation, which added another horror to his illness.
Rahul was treated in the hospital for 14 days. After that, he was taken home. But his health did not improve. When his condition worsened again, he was taken to Zahirul Medical, where the doctors advised him to be taken to Dhaka. Rahul died in the ambulance on the way to Dhaka. The day was August 8, 2024.
Relatives' Statements
After the demise of the gentle and polite Md. Rahul, a shadow of grief descended on the family. His parents became distraught. The grieving father, Md. Mizan, said, "Before the movement, my son called and said, 'I am in the movement. Don't worry about me.' Then my son was injured by tear gas. He used to support our family. He is no more."
Younger brother Ratul said, "Shaheed Rahul was my elder brother. He was martyred in the movement in Dhaka. Brother used to study at Bajitpur College. He used to work in a shoe shop in Dhaka to cover his educational expenses and send money to the family. As an elder brother, he took care of our family along with himself. My brother was very good. He loved me very much. Rahul was the light of hope for our family. We are proud because my brother was martyred for the country."
Martyr Rahul was dear to the people of the area. Grief descended on everyone after his death. Everyone is remembering his sacrifice with respect.
Economic Condition of the Martyr's Family
Shaheed Rahul's father is a sand trawler driver. His younger son helps his father. Their monthly income is about 12,000 taka. They have no other source of income. The martyr has a sister who studies.
