Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Mobarak Hossain was born on November 15, 1992, in Noakandi, Kishoreganj. His father, Md. Hashem, is a day laborer, and his mother, Amena, is a homemaker. The martyr's father remarried and lives separately with his new wife. Mobarak was employed as a sales representative at an electrical shop, named Messrs. Shatarupa Traders, Deepa Electronics Market, 159 Nawabpur Road, Dhaka. The married martyr Mobarak had a two-year-old daughter named Adiba. He lived with his wife, daughter, mother, and brother, Mosharraf Hossain, in a rented house in the Apon Bazar area of Rayerbag, Dhaka. On July 19, a massive clash occurred between supporters of the anti-discrimination student and public movement and government supporters and police. Shaheed Mobarak joined the anti-discrimination student and public movement's procession. When the procession reached in front of Kadamtala, the murderous police started firing indiscriminately. A bullet entered one side of Mobarak's body and exited the other. He was then taken to a nearby hospital and bandaged. Later, in critical condition, he was being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but he passed away before reaching the hospital.
Context of Martyrdom
We are citizens of the same country. Ordinary citizens of the third world, growing up in the light and air of independent and sovereign Bengal. We became independent from Pakistan from an expectation for having a better and discrimination-free Bangladesh. The country was liberated, but the economic liberation of the people of this country never happened. Corruption, irregularities, and discrimination became ingrained in every layer of this country. Various forms of discrimination, including the quota system, became prevalent, among which the quota for the grandchildren of freedom fighters was prominent.
Freedom fighters are the great sons of this country. There is no doubt that the nation will always remember their great sacrifice with deep respect. No one should have any objection to giving them the highest level of state allowances, showing respect, and placing them in the highest positions of honor. The nation has never been stingy in giving the freedom fighters their due respect. When it comes to evaluating their children, the nation has also remained silent. But the problem arises with the practice of claiming benefits in the name of freedom fighters generation after generation. According to Daily Prothom Alo, there are 55,000 freedom fighters in this country who were born after 1971. This means that the consciousness-trading autocratic Awami League is using the liberation war as an excuse to hand over the administrative responsibility to their party cadres. This nation-destroying activity of the Awami League is contrary to the spirit of the liberation war. That is why an unprecedented mass uprising was organized against this discrimination. People of all classes and professions had equal participation in this uprising. Shaheed Mobarak Hossain was also a proud participant in this movement.
July 19 was a Friday. The whole country was turbulent with the anti-discrimination movement. Martyr Mobarak Hossain was returning home after performing Friday prayers. When he reached home, his only daughter, Adiba, asked for chips. At that time, a massive clash was going on between the murderous police and the protesters below his house. Although he went outside to get chips, he forgot that and about buying chips. He joined the anti-discrimination student and public procession. When the procession reached in front of Kadamtali Police Station, the killer police started firing indiscriminately. A bullet hit Shaheed Mobarak in the head. He collapsed on the road. Colleagues were trying to take him to the hospital, but he passed away before that.
Awami League's Old Game of Disposing of Bodies
The Bangladesh Awami League is the opponent of the systematic democratic process. From birth till now, they have never believed in democracy. There is no alley of dirty politics where the Awami League has not set foot. The terrorist Awami League's only opponent in the politicization of dead bodies and the disposal of dead bodies is the Awami League itself. Martyr Mobarak Hossain's body was disposed of. There was no trace of the body for two days. After much searching, his body was found two days later. Then, he was taken to his village home and buried in the village on July 22.
Reactions of the Martyr's Relatives
Shaheed Mobarak Hossain's story is very painful. His younger brother, Mosharraf Hossain, said, "Their father left them when they were young. Their mother raised them by working as a domestic worker in Dhaka. Both brothers worked as sales representatives in an electrical equipment shop in the Nawabpur area. We used to get a salary of about 30,000 taka per month. The family was somehow managing. But with my brother's death, everything suddenly became uncertain. He has a wife and a one-and-a-half-year-old child. How will this family of six members survive with a single income? His wife, Shanta Akter, has become like a stone in grief after losing her husband. While talking, she pulled her daughter into her arms and burst into tears. She said, 'What was my husband's crime?'"
