Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Md. Jasim Uddin Sarkar was born on December 29, 1989, in Nayanagar village, Melandah Thana, Jamalpur District. His father, Md. Jahangir Alam (55), is a sweet seller by profession, and his mother, Asia Begum (50), is a homemaker. He lived in a rented house in the Moynar Tek area of Uttarkhan Thana with his garment worker wife, Banesha, and four children. Shaheed Jasim Uddin Sarkar himself was a garment worker. On the afternoon of August 4, he participated in the anti-discrimination student and public procession in the Azampur area of Uttara. There was a massive clash between the police and the protesters here. During this time, he was shot. However, the martyr's wife could not find him anywhere. Finally, on August 16, his body was recovered from the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Context of Martyrdom
On August 4, at 12:00 PM, the garment factory authority ordered every worker to leave the factory due to security concerns. After that, Shaheed Jasim came home. He had lunch at 1:00 PM and took rest. Then, some students, who were previously known to him, came to his house and invited him to join the anti-discrimination movement. Shaheed Jasim left the house with the students and joined the anti-discrimination movement in the Azampur area of Uttara. After that, he did not return home. The next day, on August 5, Jasim Uddin's wife called Jasim Uddin's mother's number in the village. She informed her, "Mother, your son has been missing since yesterday." Jasim's whereabouts remained unknown until August 7. Jasim used multiple SIM cards. Therefore, his wife, Banesha, kept calling continuously.
On August 8, at one point, a call was connected to a number, and an unknown person answered the phone. When Jasim's wife asked, "Where did you get the number?" the person replied that the owner of the phone had been shot. He had been taken to the hospital, and he had his mobile phone. After that, the person did not receive any more calls and turned off the phone. Martyr's wife, Banesha, inquired at various hospitals in search of her husband but could not find him anywhere.
On August 16, someone called Shaheed Jasim's wife from another unknown number and informed her that her husband's body was at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Then, the martyr's family went to the hospital. There, they were shown many bodies. However, the faces of most of the bodies were distorted due to bullet wounds. As a result, the family could not identify his body. Later, his wife identified him by his red shirt and navy blue jeans pants. The hospital staff demanded 50,000 taka from the martyr's family to hand over the body. However, when the family threatened to call the army, the hospital authorities handed over the body to the family without any money. The martyr's family received Jasim's body after a total of 11 days. Later, he was buried in his village, Nayanagar.
