Context of Martyrdom
Martyr Abujar Sheikh was active from the beginning in the anti-discrimination student and public movement. On July 19, the day of the movement, he took to the streets. At 5:20 PM, he was critically injured by the bullets of the murderous police under the Norda overbridge in the Jamuna Future Park area. Two police bullets pierced his abdomen. The injured Abujar was taken to Evercare Hospital. Regarding the incident, Abujar's elder brother Shahidul said that on the evening of July 19, a person called on his mobile phone and informed him that Abujar had been shot in the abdomen. Later that night, they went to Evercare Hospital in the capital. There, the doctor advised surgery. After the surgery at night, Abujar's physical condition deteriorated further. Doctors advised taking him to another hospital. Accordingly, he was admitted to Dhaka Metropolitan Hospital. There, doctors again advised surgery. After that, Abujar's condition worsened. Later, the doctors informed that his brother was no more. This day was July 27, 2024.
Feelings of Relatives After Martyrdom
The elderly mother is seeing only darkness around her after losing Martyr Abujar, her source of support and the apple of her eye. Her cries seem to never stop. In a tearful voice, with a broken voice, she said, "There was always poverty in the family. We raised the children with great difficulty. When my Abujar was six, his father died. Since then, I have been suffering so much. I thought the boys would grow up and alleviate my suffering. Among three sons and one daughter, my Abujar was the youngest. The other boys have separated. The youngest boy used to take care of me, provide food, and pay for medicine, and that boy was shot and killed."
She further said, "Lying on the hospital bed, my son told me, 'Get me treated even if it's difficult. I will return all the money when I get better.' I managed to collect 1.5 million taka from everyone with great difficulty for my son's treatment, but I still couldn't bring him back. I prayed to Allah so much, 'Allah, please let my boy live.'" This mother, apprehensive about getting justice, asks the nation, "What harm did my son do to anyone? A boy who is crazy about his mother cannot harm anyone. Why did they have to shoot my boy?" This mother also said, "My father was shot on July 19 while participating in the movement. People took my father to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. After six days in the hospital, the doctor said it would cost a lot of money, and you should go to another hospital. Later, he was operated on at Metropolitan Hospital. Two days later, my father passed away. My father used to send home whatever he earned. I hoped to get my father married and build a new house. My hopes are gone. I have become heavily indebted. I want justice for my father's killers."
