Context of Martyrdom
Martyr Md. Rabbi was born into a very poor family. His father worked hard, farming on other people's land, to educate his two children. Rabbi's father, Md. Abdur Rahim, raises two cows at home. His elder son teaches at a coaching center in Gulshan, Dhaka, and contributed as much as he could to the family's expenses. To sustain his studies, Rabbi gave private tuition and worked part-time at a private institution. This is how he continued his education. The family was barely managing with the combined efforts of the two brothers. With so many inconsistencies, obstacles, and financial hardships, perhaps that is why Martyr Md. Rabbi Mia was not on the field during the anti-discrimination movement. Perhaps he wanted to live for his family.
However, true struggle is not just about being on the field. Help can be provided in various ways from different places. Martyr Md. Rabbi Mia is an example of this. He was not on the field, but he wanted to be a witness to history by capturing the scenes of the brutality, genocide, and barbarism of killer Hasina's henchmen. His recorded scenes could have been documentary evidence of the fallen autocrat's cruelty. That is why, when the fallen autocrat killer Hasina's forces were indiscriminately shooting and killing people from multi-story buildings with snipers from helicopters, Martyr Md. Rabbi Mia was capturing those scenes, ignoring the fear of death. At this time, on July 20, a killer's bullet shattered his chest. Shaheed Md. Rabbi Mia's earthly journey ended on the spot. Thus, the dreams of Rabbi Mia, who came from an extremely poor home, were shattered.
Feelings of Relatives After Martyrdom
The martyr's father, Md. Abdur Rahim, said, "How do I console myself? How will I live after losing my son?" Even 12 days after the death of her youngest son, Martyr Rabbi's mother, Razia Begum, cannot stop her tears. Holding a picture of Martyr Rabbi to her chest, she is constantly crying. She is lamenting and saying, "My son used to call every day and talk all the time. He used to say, 'We will not be poor anymore, mother, you'll see.' It has been 12 days since my son called me. And he will never call again." The martyr's friend, Md. Moniruzzaman Manik, said, "Martyr Rabbi was a very talented student. As locals, we want justice for the Hasina government, which is involved in the murder of a talented student and the destruction of the country's wealth. We want to file a case."
Special Information of the Martyr's Family
The martyr's father, Md. Abdur Rahim, used to cover the family's expenses by pulling a rickshaw at times and by farming at others. Despite all the adversities, Shaheed Rabbi's elder brother, Antor Mia, recently completed his master's in political science and is preparing for government job exams. He teaches at an English medium school in Gulshan, Dhaka, to cover his own expenses. After covering their own expenses, the two brothers used to send the remaining money home.
