Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Abdul Aziz was born on July 13, 1989, in Charbasanti village, Nakla Thana, Sherpur District. His father, Mozammel Haque, was deceased, and his mother, Sahera Khatun, is a homemaker. Martyr Abdul Aziz worked as a laborer at a garment factory named Tex Europe BD Limited in Basan Thana, Gazipur. On August 5, 2024, while participating in a program called by the anti-discrimination student movement, he was injured by rubber bullets fired by the police. Rubber bullets hit his eyes, face, and various parts of his body, causing him to collapse to the ground instantly. Several other protesters were injured along with him, but Abdul Aziz's injuries were the most severe. After two days of treatment, he passed away on August 7 at 3:00 AM.
Context of Martyrdom
On August 5, the entire country was in an uproar with protests. The wave of the movement had reached Gazipur as well. Martyr Abdul Aziz participated in this movement. At one point in the movement, the police began indiscriminate baton charges. Many people were capturing the scenes of this police brutality on their mobile phones. Around 2:00 PM, Martyr Abdul Aziz was also capturing these scenes on his mobile phone. Suddenly, a barrage of rubber bullets hit various parts of his body. His eyes, face, and chest became bloody. Several other protesters were injured along with him, but his injuries were severe. Fellow protesters carried him to the local medical college hospital. After two days of treatment there, all efforts failed, and he departed from this world. He died on August 7 at 3:00 AM. The next day, on August 8, his body was taken to his village, Charbasanti. After the funeral prayers in the family graveyard, he was buried there.
Feelings of Relatives After Martyrdom
Martyr Abdul Aziz had been married to Hosna Begum of the same village on July 1, 2024, through a family arrangement. Hosna Begum was speechless due to this misfortune. Abdul Mannan, the martyr's younger brother and HSC examinee, said, "I don't think I will be able to study anymore. Who will pay for my education?" Local rural physician Golam Sarwar said, "The current interim government should pay attention to Abdul Aziz's family."
The martyr's father-in-law, Mozamia, said, "The marriage with Aziz was happened a month ago, but he died after being injured by police gunfire on August 5. What will happen to my daughter's future now?" Former Chairman Md. Ahsan Hafiz Khan said, "I demand proper justice for the death of Abdul Aziz, the sole breadwinner of the family, and I seek comprehensive cooperation from the administration for the family."

Special Information of the Martyr's Family
Martyr Abdul Aziz lost his father when he was only 5-7 years old. Therefore, he had to take on the burden of work at a young age. His elder brother is a brick kiln worker. He had gotten married just a few days before his death, with a dowry of one lakh taka. Although that dowry has been paid by the local Nakla Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, his wife, Hosna Begum, now faces an uncertain future.
