How He Was Martyred
On August 5, 2024, Martyr Ashraful's life came to a tragic end, causing deep sorrow for his family and the nation. That day was a special day for the country: the day of the fall of the 16-year autocratic ruler, Sheikh Hasina. With the fall of the fascist Hasina, a wave of joy swept across the country. Like the rest of the country, Dhaka was filled with victory processions celebrating the successful end of the anti-autocracy movement. Martyr Ashraful Islam joined this joyous procession along with other ordinary people—children, youth, and the elderly.
Ashraful Islam was always in favor of social and national progress. On that special day, he was recording videos on his mobile phone to capture the memories of the joyous procession.
However, that joyous moment suddenly turned into a tragic incident. The police launched a surprise attack on the procession, firing bullets indiscriminately at the marchers. Ashraful's body was riddled with bullets. He was hit with two bullets in his lower back and one along his spine. These injuries severely wounded him, and he began to bleed profusely. Yet, Ashraful bravely composed himself and rushed to Suhrawardy Hospital for treatment. Upon reaching the hospital, he bought a ticket with his own hands and stood in the emergency room. He waited for treatment, suffering from intense pain. Blood continued to flow from his body. Unfortunately, the emergency department doctors failed to treat him.
His bullet-ridden body gradually became weak as he waited in the hospital's emergency room. Still, no doctor came forward to treat him. Without any medical assistance, he tragically died in the emergency department of Suhrawardy Hospital.
The Helpless Martyr's Family
Shaheed Ashraful was a very good, responsible, and hardworking boy. He was a major source of support for everyone in his family. Like his father, Abdul Ali, who earns his living by cutting trees, he lived an honest life. Ashraful, through his garment job, gave a large portion of his earnings to his family every month. The family was largely dependent on his income. The family led a simple but peaceful life with the combined income of his elder brother, himself, and his father.
However, Ashraful's death completely changed their lives. His martyrdom left the family in a very weak financial state. It has become very difficult to run the family with his father's tree-cutting work and his brother's agricultural income. Without Ashraful's financial assistance, their lives have become extremely difficult and uncertain, and the family is facing financial strain. He was a major support and hardworking person for this family. His tragic death not only destroyed his family but also caused an irreparable loss to the country. Now, his family, neighbors, relatives, friends, and people from all walks of life demand proper justice for his murder.
