Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Nazmul Hasan hailed from Comilla but resided with his family near his maternal grandparents' home in Madaripur. His father was unable to work due to illness, while his mother was employed at a hospital in Dhaka. Nazmul balanced his studies with assisting his mother in her work.
Background of the Incident
After coming to power in 2008, Sheikh Hasina turned Bangladesh into a dysfunctional state by driving out patriots and looting through incompetent, sycophantic, and lewd party members. Sheikh Hasina made a plan to stay in power until 2041. Although the unjustified freedom fighter quota in government jobs was abolished in 2018 in the face of protests, it was brought back in 2024 through a party judge in the High Court. University and college students began protesting to ban the quota system like in 2018. The Chhatra League, beat up peaceful protesters. Throughout July, the police, BGB, RAB, and Ansar took to the streets with weapons of war to suppress the students and the public. Thousands of students and people were injured and killed. Internet and mobile networks were shut down and curfews were imposed. Students and people began to be arrested from their homes. Even in such turbulent days, Najmul would not leave home for work. Najmul Hasan has been living in Dhaka since childhood for the sake of livelihood. To support his family, Najmul took a job as a physiotherapy technician at Faraji Hospital in the capital a year ago. On July 19, he left his house in Aftabnagar area for his workplace at noon. While walking to the Godara Ghat bridge in the Banasree area due to lack of vehicles on the road due to gunfire and clashes, he was shot in the stomach. Najmul fell to the ground. A passerby rescued Najmul and took him to Nagorik Private Hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment for some time. On the same day, his body was brought to his village home in Chargoindpur area of Madaripur Sadar Upazila. Najmul was buried in the family graveyard on July 20.

Najma Begum, the mother of the deceased Najmul Hasan, said in tears, "My son was shot and killed while going to work. He did not protest. Why was my son shot and killed? He is my only son.
