Abdullah Bin Zahid

Abdullah Bin Zahid was born on November 1, 2008, in Kishoreganj District. His father's name is Zahidul Islam, and his mother's name is Fatematuz Zohura. His parents are separated. Abdullah was a second-year HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) student. He had a younger brother, 14-year-old Mahmudullah Bin Zisan, who is suffering from cancer. Abdullah lived in a rented house in Ashkona with his mother and younger brother.
Background of Martyrdom
Abdullah was an eleventh-grade student at Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College. On August 5, after the resignation and departure of the former illegal and murderous Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Abdullah sought his mother's permission to join a celebratory rally. His mother consented, on the condition that he return home right after the Maghrib prayer. At 7:36 PM, his mother Fatema called him and reminded him of the time in a 17-second phone conversation. Abdullah responded that he would be home in half an hour.
However, at 8:10 PM, an unknown number called and informed his mother that Abdullah had been shot and she should come immediately to Uttara's Mother and Child Hospital. Before she could arrive, the same number called three more times, warning that if she did not come quickly, Abdullah would be transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
By around 9:00 PM, when Fatema arrived at the hospital, she found her son's lifeless body with his big toes tied with white gauze. She recounted that Abdullah was shot in the neck and back on the opposite side of the APBN Headquarters in Uttara. The bullet in his back could not be removed. Abdullah was buried that same night at their village home in Kishoreganj.
Family's Statement
After her eldest son's death by gunfire, Fatema was blamed by her husband and in-laws for allowing Abdullah to join the rally. She said, "With my son's death, 80% of my life has plunged into darkness. I live only for my younger son. I now have to seek help from people for his treatment. There is no other way. The best treatment for his cancer is available in Singapore. I seek justice for my son's murder and request the current government to assist in my surviving son's medical care."
Earlier, on August 4, Abdullah had gone to Azampur to join a protest, saying he was going to private tuition. When called home, he replied he couldn’t return due to the situation. Fatema informed her elder brother, who tactfully summoned Abdullah to an office with an excuse, and later brought him home.
Abdullah had previously seen someone get shot and die before his eyes during a protest. He had also been exposed to tear gas and beaten by police.
Fatema recalled that the doctor who called from the hospital said Abdullah had identified himself and repeatedly requested, “Please call my mother quickly. I’ll be fine when she arrives.” These words were reportedly spoken with great difficulty, and he passed away shortly after. The boy who brought Abdullah to the hospital fainted after witnessing his condition.
Financial Situation
Just one week after Abdullah Bin Zahid’s death, his only younger brother was diagnosed with cancer. The parents had been separated long before. Currently, Abdullah's mother is undergoing chemotherapy sessions for her younger son at the hospital. With no income or financial support, the family is living in extreme hardship.
