Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Every soul shall taste death. Life on earth is temporary, and death is an inevitable reality. While opinions may differ about the afterlife, there is no dispute—regardless of religion or race—that death will come for all.
"Death" separates every individual from the material attachments of the world—wealth, possessions, and status. It creates a divide between siblings, parents, friends, and relatives. It severs the bonds of love and affection. Over time, even the dearest of loved ones begins to forget the departed from their hearts.
"But one death keeps the dead alive. That death is fortunate, that death is martyrdom. Allah Ta'ala says, 'And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are living, but you do not perceive it.'
The goal of a true, free, and independent life is only for those who are called today to give their lives in the way of God. What was the crime of the martyr, Md. Sohag? Why did the father have to carry his son's coffin on his shoulders? Why did the cries of the mother and brother fill the air? Why did we have to hear the heartbreaking cries of relatives and neighbors? There is only one crime! And that is to protest against injustice. To oppose the discriminatory behavior of the autocratic killer Sheikh Hasina. He did not commit any other crime. Is this why Sheikh Hasina's pet police league shot and killed Sohag?"
Biography of Shaheed Md. Sohag
The BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami coalition government of Bangladesh completed its five-year term. On that very day, terrorist Awami League planned and killed many leaders and workers of Jamaat-e-Islami. Immediately afterward, a caretaker government came and took over the administration of the country. At the very beginning of the caretaker government, on January 1, 2007, Rezaul Karim and Salma Begum gave birth to Sohag. Shaheed Md. Sohag Hossain is the light of the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement. Md. Sohel, the son of a poor family in the village of Bara Paharpur in Pirganj Upazila of Rangpur district. He did not have the opportunity to study much due to lack of money. He finished his studies up to the fifth grade. Finally, he decided to live in Dhaka with his family. His father drives a rickshaw with great difficulty. To alleviate some of his father's grief, he took a job in a garment factory called M.J.D Company in Dhaka for a salary of only Tk 7,500. He had to endure the torture of the high-ranking officers and employees of the garment regularly. He dreamed in his mind that one day he would grow up and become the owner of a big garment factory. But the dream remained a dream. The Awami League terrorist organization and the police who got jobs in their quota destroyed his dream. On July 19, 2024, he was forced to say goodbye forever due to being shot by the killer police for participating in the anti-discrimination student movement.
The Incident of Martyrdom
When the students were peacefully protesting, on July 14, 2024, Sheikh Hasina made fun of the students' logical demands in a press conference. She also used the word 'Razakar' to address the protesters. This revealed her stubbornness and arrogance. After this, the students became enraged, and the movement became even stronger. When the law enforcement agencies used force to suppress the movement, more than two hundred lives were lost across the country in a few days from July 17. After that, the army was deployed and tried to control the situation by imposing a curfew. However, the students went on a one-point movement to overthrow the government. In the event of a huge loss of life, in the end, nothing could save them.
On Friday, July 19, there were widespread clashes in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, and the situation was tense. Vandalism and arson were carried out at various government establishments, including the Metro Rail Station, the elevated expressway toll plaza, and the Mirpur Indoor Stadium. Later it was learned that on the advice and planning of Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina, the common students were blamed for setting fire to and destroying various government establishments. At least 56 people were killed in the clashes across the country.
On this day, after Jumma prayers at 3 pm, Sohag participated in the anti-discrimination student movement procession in Uttar Badda with a friend from Mymensingh. At one stage of the movement program, Sohag moved to the front line. Different people started running in different directions. Several students lay injured on the road. No one dared to come forward to help the injured. Sohag and several other protesters came forward to help the injured. Everyone is trying to overcome all fear and continue the movement. At one stage of the movement program, the police, like ruthless animals, suddenly opened fire on the unarmed protesters. While participating in the movement, Sohag was shot in the left side of his chest and seriously injured and fell to the ground. He was immediately taken to the nearby A.M.J.D Hospital, where the doctor on duty advised him to be taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, he passed away at Dhaka Medical College. In the absence of anyone nearby, he got lost among many dead bodies. Finally, from the pile of dead bodies, his father was able to identify him by seeing his panjabi. The fascist Sheikh Hasina's government, which has been in power for more than 15 consecutive years since 2008, has lost the trust of the people by killing, creating anarchy, and looting.
Faced with the heat of the long movement for quota reform and in exchange for the lives of sons like Shaheed Sohag who walked the path of truth and justice, the ogre, power-hungry Sheikh Hasina was finally forced to flee the country.
Feelings of the Martyr's Elder Brother
Death is inevitable for everyone. Some die a natural death, and some die an unnatural death. And some deaths are memorable deaths. And Sohag always desired that memorable death. I am not at all sad about his death, rather I am proud to be the brother of a martyr.
Hobbies of Shaheed Sohag
He loved keeping pigeons. Sohag's dream was to save money little by little and become a big businessman in Dhaka. While working in the garment factory, he had to endure various physical and mental tortures of the high-ranking officers and employees. For this reason, he imagined in his mind that one day I too would be the owner of such a garment factory.
