Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
Tahir Zaman Priyo was born in the nineties to the family of Abu Hena Mostafa Zaman and Samsi Ara Zaman. This valiant warrior was raised with the utmost affection of his parents in the suburbs of Rangpur city. Upon growing up, he developed himself as a creative artist with his talent and sharp intellect. He liked to keep himself involved in any creative work, including painting and photography. He had special skills and interest in reviewing various subjects.
He completed his diploma in professional photography from Pathshala-South Asian Media Institute. However, after a marital dispute and divorce from his wife, his world revolved around his only daughter, Padmapriyo Paramita. This creative young man was supposed to join a small and medium-sized industrial enterprise called 'Gutipa,' which produces leather goods, this year. Before that, Priyo passed away, a victim of the brutal murder by the Awami beasts.
This talented young man joined The Report Dot Live as a photojournalist in January 2021. He resigned from the position of video journalist of the multimedia online news portal in February 2024.
How He Became a Martyr
He was martyred on July 19, 2024, by Awami killer police gunfire on Central Road, Dhanmondi, during the student movement demanding quota reform in government jobs. On the day of the incident, Priyo's loving mother sat at New Market Police Station from 11 am. Initially, the police refused to file a case. After a long wait, as the crowd grew, the Additional Commissioner (DMP) arranged for the case to be filed around 12 am.
Feelings of Loved Ones
Mahabub Alam Srabon, a former colleague and staff reporter of The Report Dot Live, said: "Speaking from the experience of working together for a long time, Tahir Zaman Priyo was an incredibly talented and discerning person. He could handle the camera brilliantly. He loved to paint. Priyo was a very sociable person, and most importantly, he was a dreamer. He had a strong desire to make a movie about his country. He often told me, 'Srabon, you'll see, my movie will be very beautiful! And you'll be in it.' He used to plan before any work. He loved flowers very much. One funny thing was that he was a very sleep-loving person. If he ever saw trash on the street, he would pick it up and throw it in the dustbin with his own hands. I have never heard of him having any quarrels with anyone. With his ever-smiling face, he was as dear to everyone as his name suggests. Everyone loved him very much. Priyo had an incredible ability to draw people close with love in a short time."
The last Facebook post of Shaheed Tahir Zaman Priyo, written about his daughter, is quoted verbatim: In the caption of the shared post, he wrote, "My daughter, Padmapriyo Paramita. The little bird has turned 4. Tomorrow starts a new chapter in her life. Padmo's first school. I am her father and mother at the same time. A single father, and also have the responsibilities of a mother. My past was not pleasant. But the future will be very, very pleasant for us, InshaAllah. Everyone will pray for my daughter."
