Martyr of the Fresh Flower of the Martyrs' Garden
After 15 years, Bangladesh was freed from the hands of the autocratic ruler. Mohammad Toufiq Islam was born on 21st November 1980 in the house of late Mohammad A. Ali, and Hosne Ara Begum, hailed from Chowrapara, Mahadebpur, in Rangpur district. He grew up and prepared himself to be an engineer. He was exceptionally talented in studies. After completing his B.Sc., he joined Pedrollo Pump Limited Company. Later, he married Mosammat Ismam Jahan Elora. Martyr Toufiq Islam was the only gem of his family.
How the Martyr Passed Away
The day was Friday, 19th July 2024. A massive conflict, attacks, vandalism, shooting, arson, and loss of life took place in the capital, Dhaka, surrounding the complete shutdown and total blockade protests by students demanding the reform of the quota system. Martyr Toufiq Islam was in support of the quota reform movement. That day, Awami goons unleashed chaos and anarchy in Dhaka and other divisional cities. It was a tense day, with Dhaka University boiling with unrest. In the evening, the government of Hasina closed all educational institutions across the country. To suppress the movement, Awami terrorists destroyed the BTV building, Setu Bhavan, Disaster Management building, Mirpur 10, Kazi Para Metro Station, and the toll collection boxes on the Uttara Expressway, setting them on fire. On the same day, in places like Jatrabari, Badda, Rampura, Moghbazar, Banani, Mirpur, and Mohammadpur, police and Awami League goons brutally attacked students and the public. Martyr Toufiq Islam was injured by the bullets of the corrupt police. He then fell in front of his house. His house guard and family members rushed him to MDJ Hospital nearby, but since there were no sufficient doctors, he did not receive treatment there. He was then taken to Dhaka Medical College, where after two days of treatment, he passed away on 21st July 2024 at 6:00 AM.
How Martyr Toufiq's Family is Doing
Martyr Toufiq leaves behind two young daughters, aged seven and two. After his father's death, Toufiq had taken the responsibility of his family. He was a shelter for his mother and a strong pillar for his children. Due to the corruption of the police, thousands of families have become helpless today. Countless mothers have lost their sons. Many children have been orphaned, and numerous sisters have become widows. Among them is also Toufiq Islam’s family.
The Memories Left Behind
Martyr Toufiq Islam was a very friendly and sociable person. He treated everyone with kindness and was always ready to help in times of trouble. He loved peaceful living. After losing his father, the cries of his innocent children seem to never cease.
