Md. Zobayer Hossain

Md. Zobayer Hossain was one of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle against discrimination. He was born in the remote village of Khord Saptana in Lalmonirhat district. His father was Mr. Zahirul Islam, and his mother's name was Mrs. Zinnatun Nahar. He was locked inside a house in Lalmonirhat, where the miscreants set it on fire. He succumbed to his injuries from the fire and attained martyrdom there.
Personal Life
Md. Zobayer Hossain was a student. He studied in the 9th grade at Lalmonirhat Government Technical School and College. Occasionally, he would join his father as an interior design craftsman.
As a young boy, Zobayer was truly a bright and hardworking individual. He wanted to continue his studies through hard work. His dream was to go far in life. But not everyone’s dreams come true. Some people's dreams remain just that—dreams, never becoming reality. His dreams were burned along with his body in the fire. The colorful dreams he once cherished turned into ashes in an instant.
Family Life
Martyr Zobayer's family consisted of five members. His elder brother, Zakir Hossain, was a Hafiz of the Qur'an. His younger sister, Jessmin Akter, was studying in the 9th grade.
The family was in very poor financial condition. They lived hand to mouth. There was no regular income. His sick father worked as an interior design craftsman, suffering from back problems. At the end of each day, the money he earned was just enough to keep the family going. The only earning member of the family, Zobayer’s father, Mr. Zahirul Islam, is currently very ill. Some time ago, while working as a craftsman, he fell and severely injured his back. He had to spend a lot of money on treatment and still cannot walk properly. He is unable to do heavy work, yet he continues to work every day despite his illness to sustain his family. Due to his father’s illness, the martyr Zobayer would help his father as a craftsman.
How Martyr Md. Zobayer Hossain Was Burned Alive
The incident occurred on August 5, 2024. On this day, a new chapter in Bangladesh’s history was written. Fascism and authoritarianism fell, and victory and celebration parades were held across the country. Martyr Zobayer Hossain joined the victory procession that day.
As the students and general public celebrated, some individuals, including local Awami League leader Shakhawat Hossain Suman, locked six students inside the third floor of his luxurious four-story house. The doors were shut from the outside, and the house was set on fire. In an instant, six lives were consumed by the flames, and among them was Martyr Md. Zobayer Hossain. The public believes that this gruesome killing was carefully planned. The house was located behind the central Shaheed Minar of Lalmonirhat Girls' High School.
As the night grew darker, the families of the six students began searching for them. They searched online and through various channels. Eventually, news came that six bodies had been recovered from the burned house. It was around midnight, and they began to suspect that their son, Zobayer, might be one of them. With the help of the army, the bodies were recovered and taken to the Lalmonirhat hospital morgue. The next morning, upon reaching the hospital, the families learned that their beloved son, Zobayer, was indeed among the six. His body had been burned beyond recognition, reduced to ash, and there was no way to identify him except through a few distinguishing features. It was with great difficulty that Shaheed Zobayer’s body was finally identified. Witnessing such a horrific death left everyone in shock. His mother, who had nurtured him, could not accept her son's tragic demise.
Burial
The body was handed over to the family at 5:30 PM from the hospital. After the funeral prayer, his body was buried in the local family Graveyard after the Maghrib prayer.
