How Hafizul Islam Became a Martyr:
In July, the entire country was turbulent due to the anti-discrimination student-people's movement. Students were protesting for quota reform. The government's reluctance to accept their demands intensified the movement. The autocratic government unleashed the police and Chhatra League on the students to quell this intense movement. On July 16, police shot and killed Abu Sayeed and five others. Since then, the student movement took on a more violent form, and the nine-point demands of the movement were reduced to one: ‘Sheikh Hasina's resignation.’
The call for movement echoed throughout the country. On August 4, 2024, one day before the final victory of the student-people's mass uprising, Hafizul Islam left his duty and went out on the street at 4:30 PM and spoke with his wife. The student-people's intense movement was going on in the streets. The Chhatra League and the police force had taken a position on one side to suppress them.
The procession was moving forward with slogans echoing in the air. Hafizul Islam was also over there. At that very moment, the police force and Chhatra League cadres opened fire on the student-people. Numerous bullets riddled Hafizul Islam's entire body. He collapsed on the spot and moments later fell into the lap of death.
After searching in hospitals, his bullet-ridden body was finally found at Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur, Tangail. There were numerous bullet holes in his body. His ears, stomach, and right hand were shattered and bloodied by the bullets.
