Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Shaheed A.K.M. Shaheedul Islam was born on May 10, 1975. His father's name was the late Riaz Uddin. His mother's name is Mrs. Hajera Khatun. Shaheedul Islam was born in Madarinagar, Sherpur Union, Nandaile Upazila, Mymensingh District.
Shaheedul Islam lived with his wife and two sons in the Bibi's Bagicha 1 No. Gate area of Jatrabari. He was employed as a Factory Manager at a private furniture company, Master Rocks and Furniture. His monthly salary was Tk 75,000. With this income, his family, including the education of his two children, lived comfortably.
In Shaheedul Islam's family, he was the sole breadwinner. After his death, the factory gave his family one month's salary. The provident fund money was also provided. This will sustain his family for 3-4 months. After that, this helpless family will become destitute and vulnerable, as there is no other source of income.
Currently, Shaheedul Islam's eldest son, A.K.M. Latiful Islam, is in his fourth year of honors at Government Titumir College. His second son, A.K.M. Tawhidul Islam, is a tenth-grade student.
With Shaheedul Islam's death, his wife and two children have become helpless. Facing the reality of losing her husband, she is worried about how she will manage their education and household expenses, along with her grief.
How Shaheedul Became a Martyr:
August 5, 2024. The day of the final victory of the student-people's mass uprising. Unable to stop the long march of millions towards the Ganabhaban, the autocratic leader Hasina fled to India. This news spread throughout Bangladesh instantly. People from all walks of life took to the streets with victory processions. From villages to cities, neighborhoods to localities.
Shaheedul Islam was at his rented house in Jatrabari, Dhaka, watching the news on television with his wife and two sons. They listened to the army chief's speech. Then they also received the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation and escape. In the joy of victory, they also cheered inside the room. His eldest son, Latiful Islam, immediately went out to join the victory procession.
Seeing his son's enthusiasm, Shaheedul Islam also went out onto the street a little later. His intention was to watch the victory procession from outside.
When he left the house, it was 3:30 PM. Ten minutes later, at 3:40 PM, he arrived at Bibi's Bagicha 1 No. Gate in Jatrabari. Just then, two bullets fired by the police hit his body. One entered through the right side of his abdomen and exited, and the other bullet hit the thigh of his left leg. Shaheedul Islam collapsed there.
The general public immediately picked him up and took him to Jatrabari Al Karim Hospital. The doctor immediately removed the bullet from his leg.
At this time, his eldest son, Latiful Islam, was going towards the Ganabhaban with the student-people's victory procession. He received a phone call from an unknown person informing him that his father had been shot. He immediately rushed to Jatrabari Al Karim Hospital. He saw his bullet-ridden father on a stretcher. The doctors there told him to take him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. But as the roads were occupied by the student-people, he took his critically injured father to Mugda Medical College Hospital. There his father breathed his last.
The Shadow of Grief in the Family:
With the death of Shaheed A.K.M. Shaheedul Islam, a shadow of grief descended on his family. The children are devastated by the intense pain of losing their beloved father, the sole provider of the family. The bereaved wife is distraught with the pain of losing her husband.
Although Shaheedul Islam's children were involved in the movement, he never had the opportunity to join the movement directly. The man who did not take to the streets throughout the movement, became a corpse in an instant on the day of victory while going to see the victory celebration for a glimpse. What a cruel twist of fate!
The burden of deep sorrow fell upon the shoulders of his grieving family with his death. A mountain of grief that cannot be removed by anything.
His eldest son says, "My father was the sole breadwinner of our family. We two brothers are still studying. All the expenses of the family were taken care of by my father alone. Now we are worried about our future."
His grieving wife and children want a fair trial for his murder. At the same time, they hope that Allah will surely accept their father as a martyr.
Proposals for Assistance to the Martyr's Family:
1. Financial assistance is needed.
2. A job should be arranged for the martyr’s eldest son.
