Md. Zubaid Islam

Shaheed Md. Zubaid Islam was born on January 10, 2009, in Chamrullah village, Nandaile Thana, Mymensingh, to a large, lower-middle-class family of 12. He was the eighth of nine sons and one daughter born to Md. Abdul Aziz Kusum and Mosammat Nasima Akter. Like many other lower-middle-class families in Bangladesh, Zubaid's family constantly faced financial hardship. Despite their parents' strong desire, they could not afford to educate all their children. As a result, Zubaid had to work in a grocery store at a young age to contribute to the family's income.
Martyr's Family Condition:
Of the ten siblings, only the eldest brother, Aminul Islam, was educated and is now a teacher. The other brothers did not have the same opportunity. Some are construction workers, some work in shops, and others are laborers. The two youngest brothers are students, one in tenth grade and the other in ninth, and the youngest sister is in fifth grade. Zubaid Islam was one of the earning members of this family. His parents and other family members are emotionally devastated after losing their beloved son at such a young age.
The Incident of Martyrdom:
During the anti-discrimination student-people's movement, after police unjustly attacked students on July 18, the student community called for a non-cooperation movement, defying the curfew on July 20. The whole country was in protest against the unjust oppression of the police and government party activists. During this protest movement, the Awami terrorist forces and the police, RAB, and BGB opened fire indiscriminately. Zubaid Islam was returning home from work at the shop when he was shot by the police.
Difficulties with the Body:
Although he was killed by police gunfire in the evening, his family did not initially know about his death. The shop owner informed the family members around nine o'clock at night. They then rushed to the scene. They also faced various difficulties in retrieving his body. The police and hospital authorities demanded money for the body. Even after receiving the body in exchange for money, they faced further difficulties with the ambulance. Due to the ongoing curfew and the strike, public transport was closed, and they had to pay the ambulance fifty thousand Taka to take the body home. This was a very large sum for an ordinary lower-middle-class family. Losing a young son and then facing these difficulties left the family completely distraught.
Additional Information:
Zubaid Islam's death created a deep wound in his family. His parents are emotionally broken after losing their son. Although Zubaid was a young man, his sense of responsibility towards his family was immense. His parents, brothers, and sisters all feel a sense of emptiness after his death. The family's financial instability has become even more pronounced, and they are going through a period of deep sorrow. The martyr's family wants his killers to be brought to justice.
Recommendations:
1. Arrange regular allowance for the martyr's family.
2. Bear the educational expenses of the martyr's three siblings who are still in school.
