The martyr worked as a WASA line worker and was the sole breadwinner for his family. On July 21, 2024, the country was in turmoil all day. Just before Maghrib prayer, a fierce clash erupted between students and the public against the police on Chittagong Road. The police fired indiscriminately. Zakir Hossain was present there. Suddenly, a police bullet struck him, and he was martyred.
Context of Martyrdom
Shaheed Zakir Hossain was a hardworking man. Workers like Zakir Hossain truly represent the people of this country. He probably couldn't even recall how long it had been since he had eaten fish or meat. With the rampant rise in commodity prices, people couldn't even afford vegetables, let alone fish or meat. Yet, corrupt Awami League members, from ministers to ordinary workers, amassed millions, billions, and trillions of taka. Even the house servant of the monstrous Sheikh Hasina became the owner of 400 crore taka and traveled only by helicopter. Ministers, members of parliament, actors, and petty leaders, along with Awami League-supporting thieves, swindlers, and looters, seized a large portion of the country's wealth. They treated the country like their father's property and divided everything among themselves.
They were busy competing with the rich in Canada, America, Britain, France, and India, expanding their land and wealth. Meanwhile, ordinary people in the country would hold their heads in despair at the vegetable market and cry at the chicken market, thinking of their children. The Awami syndicate arbitrarily increased the prices of goods. Yet, the mother of terrorism, the liar, the fraud, the implementer of vengeance, the mother of mafia, the killer Hasina, came to power promising rice at ten taka per kilogram and jobs in every household. But what had she done to the market? Potatoes were sixty to seventy taka per kilogram, garlic and onions were two to three hundred taka per kilogram, any vegetable was close to a hundred taka, and the prices of fish and meat were beyond mention. In this situation, no conscientious person could refrain from opposing the actions of the sick killer Hasina, who was declared "wrong-headed" by the court. The killer Hasina, and her accomplices evil son Joy, Hasan Mahmud (known as Hasao Mahmud), the collaborator of Razakars Kamrul, the liar fraud Arafat E Rahman, Salman F Rahman (known as a dervish, who showed extreme disregard for the Bengali language and looted banks and the stock market), Shahriar Kabir, Obaidul, Biplob Kumar, Momtaz, and the arrogant Shakib did not hesitate to mock the nation.
Sheikh Hasina, did not control the rising commodity prices and cruelly mocked the people. She made absurd and laughable statements like, "Eat sweet pumpkin instead of eggplant, eat jujube instead of dates, store green chilies and eggs in the fridge, eat jackfruit instead of meat, we will turn off the electricity so you can enjoy load shedding, we gave you mobile phones, we increased your age," etc., adding salt to the nation's wounds. Even an ordinary citizen could understand these cruel jokes. That's why there was such a mass uprising against Hasina. No one was managed with money, no one was threatened with sticks, and no one was forced to participate in the programs by threatening job loss. Everyone participated in this movement, considering it their sacred duty. The destitute children from extremely poor families, the homeless street children, and the lower-class people stood shoulder to shoulder with the students and the public.
Martyr Zakir Hossain was a WASA line worker. He was the only son of his disabled mother. His father was deceased. This helpless man was riddled with bullets fired by the police on Chittagong Road on July 21, 2024. A bullet pierced Zakir Hossain's stomach and exited. He succumbed to death due to severe blood loss.
