Context of Martyrdom
In mid-July 2024, the anti-discrimination student movement was passing through a critical moment. The fascist Hasina government used all its power to suppress the movement. In Rangpur, Shaheed Abu Saeed was killed. There were numerous casualties in the capital, Dhaka, and across the country. Universities were closed, and students were ordered to vacate their dormitories. Then, an unprecedented event occurred. Even though the hands and feet of public university students were tied, the children of private universities stood in front, which was beyond imagination. They voluntarily took on the responsibility of leading the movement. The movement regained momentum. Ignoring the government's threats, the anti-discrimination student movement remained vocal in the field.
They implemented various programs, defying fear and intimidation. July 19, 2024, was a Friday. On this day, the anti-discrimination student and public procession was supposed to start from Baitul Mukarram Mosque. Shaheed Omar Faruk joined the quota reform movement with his classmates. The procession from Baitul Mukarram Mosque reached the Laxmibazar area of the capital. When the police force, engaged in implementing the government's agenda, opened fire on the students, Omar Faruk was shot. According to eyewitnesses, he was hit by three bullets. The first bullet hit his navel. He fell on the street after being shot. Later, the police shot him twice more in the chest and left Shaheed Omar Faruk on the street. His classmates rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but he died on the way. His father, Abdul Khalek, was supposed to return home from abroad in five days. But after hearing that his son had been hit by pellets, he returned to Bangladesh immediately.
Difficulties with the Body
The martyr's father was supposed to return to the country on July 24. He wanted to return home with his father. But before that, Shaheed Omar Faruk was killed by police bullets in the quota reform movement. Upon receiving this news through friends, family members went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital to retrieve the body. However, relatives were not allowed to enter the hospital to look for the body. The hospital authorities said that police permission was required. When they went to Shahbagh Police Station, the police said that there was no one named Omar Faruk there and told them to look elsewhere. When they went to Sutrapur Police Station, they said that there was no body with that name there either. They told them to look at the hospital. When they returned to the hospital, they were told that they were not allowed to search. Despite running around day and night, his family could not find any solution. Then, when the matter was reported to the then MP of Durgapur, Mostak Ahmed Ruhi, he spoke to the police station. Later, the police gave permission to go to the hospital and look for the body. At the hospital, relatives saw more than fifty bodies lying in a common room. Martyr Omar Faruk's body was found there. After completing the postmortem and various other procedures, they started the journey home with the body two days after his death. After the funeral prayers in the village, he was buried in the social graveyard.

He would rush to help whenever he heard about someone's trouble. The loss is irreparable." He further said, "Even the day before his death, I told my brother to come home. My mother was crying at home. My brother told me not to worry and to take care of my mother. He said he would return home with my father, but my brother returned as a corpse."
