Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Md. Ali Hussain was born on January 2, 1980. His birthplace is Mojafarpur village, Kendua Upazila, Netrokona District. His father was the late Asan Ali, and his mother is Bedena Bibi. His mother is currently an elderly woman, over 65 years old.
Martyr Ali Hussain was a mobile vendor. He sold pan and cigarettes while roaming the streets. His wife, Khairunnesa, works in other people's homes. The joint income of the husband and wife paid off loans and supported the large family. Ali Hussain's family includes his wife, three daughters; Sadia (13), Marufa (6), Mahiba (3), elderly mother Bedena, and sick younger brother Abu Bakkar. His eldest daughter, Sadia, is studying at a women's madrasa. Martyr Ali Hussain lived with his wife in Sector 14, Uttara, Dhaka. He kept his daughters with his elderly mother in the village home. The income they earned from the hard life in Dhaka was sent to his family in the village. This is how the poor Ali Hussain's family was running. The condition of his family is now miserable due to the death of this innocent and harmless person.
How Ali Hussain Became a Martyr
Although Martyr Ali Hussain, crushed by the wheel of poverty, was not directly involved in the anti-discrimination student movement, he had harbored latent anger in his mind against the injustices of the autocratic, exploitative, and murderous Hasina's Awami government, which had been going on in this country for more than a decade and a half. What time did that man have to think about anything else, who spent the whole day trying to arrange two meals a day, who had the burden of repaying loans on his head, who had the responsibility of raising three daughters, and the medical expenses of his sick mother and brother? Yet, when that man was struggling to arrange food for his stomach, he was brutally killed by the murderous police of the cannibal Hasina during the movement.
The day was Thursday, July 18. Like the rest of the country, the entire city of Dhaka was turbulent with the anti-discrimination student and public movement. Driven by poverty, to put food in his children's mouths, and to cover his elderly mother's medical expenses, he had to take to the streets even amidst this turbulent movement. He was then stationed in Rajlaxmi, Uttara, selling pan and cigarettes. Around 2:30 PM, freedom-seeking students and the public participating in the anti-discrimination student and public movement were present there. At that very moment, the obedient and monstrous police members of the autocratic government fired indiscriminately at the peaceful and unarmed protesting students and the public. During this time, a sudden bullet hit Ali Hussain's left side of his stomach. At the same time, numerous pellets hit his entire body. He immediately fell to the ground. From the scene, students and the public carried Ali Hussain to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, but it was to no avail. The doctor on duty at the hospital declared him dead after examination. The life of an innocent, harmless, hardworking, and extremely poor man, on whom a helpless family depended, was extinguished.
Overall Description of the Martyr
Ali Hussain had gone to Dhaka about a year ago, leaving his young daughters with his elderly mother in the village to repay loans. He had taken his wife Khairunnesa with him. Ali Hussain used to sell pan and cigarettes by the roadside, living in a rented house in Munshi Market, Uttara, Dhaka. Sometimes he would walk the streets, hawking with his mobile shop. His wife Khairunnesa worked in people's homes. In this way, they would send the hard-earned money to the village every month to repay loans and support the family.
The news of this hardworking man's death left his three young daughters and the entire family speechless. The locals were also shocked. No one had words to comfort Ali Hussain's three daughters. The girls' wailing after losing their father did not stop. Who would take care of them now?
Ali Hussain was struggling to run his family by running a raw material business in the village market. This led him to become heavily indebted. In this situation, he went to Dhaka to change his fortune. He mostly operated his shop on the street near Azampur Railway Station in Uttara.
His wife Khairunnesa said that her husband left for the shop after eating leftover rice around eight in the morning on July 18. She also went to work. When she went home for lunch, she found that her husband had not come. However, he used to come for lunch every day. At one point, Khairunnesa left the house in search of her husband. When she went to the place where her husband regularly set up his shop, she learned that Ali Hussain had left the shop with someone nearby and gone ahead. But he did not return even after 2-3 hours. Later, she received news of Ali Hussain's body lying in Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. Around twelve at night, the helpless wife took her husband's body to their village home in Kendua from the hospital. He was buried at eight in the morning the next day, Friday.
Khairunnesa, stating that her husband was a simple and straightforward man, said, "Everything is over for me! I don't understand how I will survive now with my three young and helpless daughters. Who will take care of us?"
Crying, the eldest daughter Sadia Akter said, "Father was everything to us. The police shot and killed my father. We want justice for this. May Allah give the killers their due punishment."
Mohammad Zakir Alam Bhuiyan, Chairman of the local Mojafarpur Union Parishad, said, "Ali Hussain's death has deeply saddened us. He was a very poor, hardworking man. His family has become very helpless due to his death. I have given them 10,000 taka in cash as assistance. However, there is no alternative to government assistance if the family is to recover."
Md. Ali Hussain has left a tragic fate for his family, who not only seek justice for his murder but also hope for a better future, which has been snatched away from them today. His family and villagers demand justice for the killers of Martyr Ali Hussain and other innocent people.
