Amjad was selling fish in the Nadda area, near Bashundhara, in the capital, Dhaka. This mobile fish vendor also sold fish on credit to households.
On the day of the incident, after lunch, he went out to collect outstanding payments. When he was in Nadda, an anti-discrimination student and public procession took place in the area. The police fired at the procession to disperse it, resulting in a clash. When Md. Amjad reached the vicinity of the Nodda overbridge, a clash between the police and the protesters was taking place. During the chase and counter-chase, the police fired indiscriminately at the students and the public. Md. Amjad was essentially walking along the shop beside the road next to the overbridge. When the police started firing, he began to run, but it was too late. A bullet fired by the murderous police entered his eye and exited through the back of his head. Md. Amjad Hossain died instantly on the spot.
Context of Martyrdom
How low stubbornness, arrogance, and pride can bring a person down is best exemplified by the most heinous autocrat in history, killer Hasina. The people of this country did not have very high demands. They did not even ask for the age-old prayer, "May my child live on milk and rice." All they asked was that their children be evaluated based on the merit they earned through their labor and sweat, nothing more. But the heinous autocrat, whose bones, marrow, blood, thoughts, and consciousness were solely composed of vindictiveness, was not willing to grant even that much right. The country is mine, and you must live as I wish, wearing the chains of slavery around your necks. Faced with such arrogance, the people of the country seemed helpless. The lives of the people of the country had no minimum value.
They wanted the blood, not the merit, of the children of this country. That is why the fallen killer Hasina wanted to cling to power even by flooding the country with blood. To achieve that goal, she indiscriminately killed porters, laborers, coolies, garment workers, fish vendors, rickshaw pullers, vegetable vendors, ordinary people, and many more. As if she had to stay in power at any cost. That is why small fish vendors like Martyr Md. Amjad Hossain had to give their lives. He knew nothing about the incident. But the fallen killer Hasina's government wanted to fish in troubled waters by creating a chaotic environment, leaving dead bodies, and creating an atmosphere of fear. They did not spare Amjad, a small fish vendor who was fleeing for his life. They shot Amjad Hossain, who was running for his life. The reckless bullet of the murderous police entered the martyr's eye and exited through the back of his head. The death of a hardworking person like Amjad Hossain was ensured.
