Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Sardul Ashish Sourav was born on December 31, 2005, into a respectable family in Jarakura village, Jhenaigati Upazila, Sherpur District. He came into this world illuminating the home of teacher couple Md. Sohrab Hossain and Shamsunnahar. He was the second of three children of this couple. Sourav's father, Sohrab Hossain, is a teacher at the local BM College. His mother, Shamsunnahar, is also a primary school teacher. Both parents being teachers, they are economically well-off. Additionally, their residential home is spread over a large area. They also own a lot of agricultural land through their family lineage.
Sourav was a student by profession. He studied at Sekandar Ali College. He was an ordinary but hardworking student in the Bengali Department of the college's second year honors program. His elder brother, Shahriar Ashish Shovon, is also a fourth-year honors student. His only younger sister, Sumona Akhtar, is a third-grade student.
How Sourav Was Martyred
August 4, 2024, the day before the autocrat killer Hasina's devastating defeat, will remain forever memorable as a tragic and historic day in Martyr Sardul Ashish Sourav's life. That day was an important program as part of the anti-discrimination student movement. Shaheed Sardul Ashish Sourav was preparing to participate in this movement with his school and college friends. Their goal was to stand against the existing discrimination and injustice in society, ensure equal rights for all, oust the Awami fascist autocratic government that had become a burden on the common people of this country, and return the country to a democratic path.
According to the pre-planned strategy, Sourav and his friends gathered in front of Sherpur Government College at 2:30 PM that day. There, they joined other members of the movement and decided to continue the program as planned. From there, they took position in front of the Kharmanur food warehouse around 3:30 PM.
However, the situation suddenly changed. At that very moment, police and Chhatra League activists launched a surprise attack on the protesters. The situation suddenly turned violent, and screams and panic spread everywhere. The protesters couldn't understand anything and started running helter-skelter to save their lives. Martyr Sardul Ashish Sourav also fell into this horrific situation, and amidst this chaos, a police vehicle ran over him, severely injuring him. Moments later, he passed away on the spot.
Sourav's body was so badly damaged that no one present could take him to the hospital. Due to this barbaric behavior of the police, Martyr Sardul Ashish Sourav died there, causing eternal grief and irreparable loss to his family.
Overall Description of the Martyr
Shaheed Sourav was a brilliant student. He was always attentive and humble in his studies. Like his elder brother and younger sister were the hope of the family, Sourav also had high aspirations for his future and dreamed of establishing himself. His family was a typical upper-middle-class family. Every member of the family worked hard and supported each other. His dream was to stand on his own feet after completing his studies and establish himself. Although he was an ordinary student, he was aware of injustice and had clear opinions on any inequality or discrimination in society.
Both of Martyr Sourav's parents were employed, which made their family financially quite well-off. Their hard work and responsibility enabled the family to live a beautiful and comfortable life. Both parents were established in their respective professions and gave utmost importance to their children's education with their earnings. Education was of utmost importance in Sourav's family. Since both his parents were teachers, they always wanted their children to receive good education and succeed in life. They grew up in this financially secure and stable family environment. The family was complete and happy.
Feelings and Sentiments of Relatives About the Martyr
Martyr Sourav's grandfather said, "I have three grandsons. Sourav was the second among them. Sourav had a very beautiful face. Tall, he was the number one boy in the entire area in every aspect. My grandson Sourav was number one in studies too. He was a very talented student. He never quarreled or fought with anyone. I loved my dear grandson very much. Now Sourav will not call me 'grandfather' anymore. I will never get my grandson back. Where do I keep so much pain now? What was my grandson's fault?"
Sourav's entire family is grieving, saddened, and heartbroken by his death. Parents are suffering from the pain of losing their beloved son. Siblings are saddened by the pain of losing their beloved brother. The whole family seems to be a city of mourning now. Sourav's family, relatives, neighbors, and everyone demands proper justice for his murder. They want severe punishment for the killers. This is their only demand to the country and the people now.
