Rubaiduzzaman was raised by his maternal uncle from the age of two, and according to his birth certificate, his uncle is listed as his father. Rubaiduzzaman was born on June 21, 2006, in Sonakuri village, Ranchandi Union, Kishoreganj Thana, Nilphamari District.
Incident Description
The event took place on August 4, 2024, during a nationwide complete shutdown. The student and public movement, which began in July against discrimination, had by then evolved into a movement calling for the overthrow of the government. The 180 million people, eager to break the chains of 16 years of oppression and taste freedom, were united in their struggle. This unity of the student body shook the foundations of the illegitimate government and created tremors in the heart of the fascist regime. In panic, they indiscriminately shot the students and public like birds. Thousands of innocent students and public were arrested without cause and held in detention. Even children were not spared. This movement saw the participation of workers, rickshaw pullers, van drivers, and people from all walks of life.
On that Thursday, due to the movement, factories closed earlier than usual, and Rubaiduzzaman joined the protest. Driven by the desire for freedom, he rushed to join the procession. As he reached the front of Ashulia Police Station, the police and Awami terrorists blocked the path and began firing indiscriminately. A bullet pierced his right rib and exited through the other side. He was immediately taken to Bypail Women and Children’s Hospital, where they did not provide any treatment but sent him to Dhaka Medical College. Upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College, the family encountered brutal reality. Everywhere, there were cries from the injured. Despite being taken to the hospital in the afternoon on August 4, the hospital authorities did not admit him. He lay on the floor of the medical college, receiving only basic treatment. No other medical attention was given to him. He stayed there the entire night. The following morning, at around 11 AM, he was finally admitted. At noon on August 5, he underwent surgery. Due to excessive bleeding, his condition worsened. Furthermore, several of his nerves were damaged, and the doctors could not give him proper treatment under pressure from higher authorities. Finally, at 2:30 AM on August 5, he died due to lack of proper medical care. The mark of his martyrdom remained in the fresh wound he carried. The pursuit of freedom, which led him to join the movement, ultimately paved the way for his eternal freedom. The next morning, his body was taken to his village by ambulance. On August 6, after the Asr prayer, he was buried in their family graveyard.
Family’s Economic Status
Rubaiduzzaman’s family consisted of six members, including four siblings. His father passed away when he was seven, leaving behind no property or land. His mother remarried, and Rubaiduzzaman was raised by his maternal uncle from the age of two. However, his foster father was also very poor. He earned a living by teaching Hafizi at a local madrasa and occasionally driving a van. Rubaiduzzaman was a student at a Qawmi madrasa. His two brothers lived near a government dam and roadside, working as garment workers in Dhaka to support the family, and his sisters were married. This entire family belonged to the lower-income class. Rubaiduzzaman had dreams of supporting his entire family. A month before his death, he started working at CS Hardware Limited in Ashulia Jamgara, hoping to be the one to carry the weight of the family. Unfortunately, that hope was never realized. His journey ended, and he embarked on the eternal voyage.
