Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Jasim Fakir was a day laborer by profession. He was born on August 5, 1988. His father's name is Md. Hayat Ali Fakir, and his mother's name is Selina Begum. Jasim Fakir’s wife is Sarmin Khanam. He is survived by an 8-year-old daughter named Toha Islam Tanha.
Context of the Martyrdom
In 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman emerged from the shelter of Pakistan to assume leadership of the newly formed country, Bangladesh. Within a few years, rampant corruption and injustice under Mujib and his party led to a nationwide famine. People were forced to the brink of despair, to the extent that some had to sell their own children for survival. During this time of crisis, a group of patriotic military officers stepped forward to rescue the nation. They overthrew Mujib and his oppressive regime.
In 1996 and again in 2008, the Awami League, with the support of India, regained power and turned Bangladesh into a subservient state of India. They systematically eliminated Islamic groups and labeled any dissenter as part of Jamaat-e-Islami or its student wing Shibir, often resulting in killings. From 2008 to 2024, their 16-year rule is remembered as one of the darkest periods in world history. Segments of students and the general public made repeated efforts to overthrow this tyrannical and illegitimate regime. Sheikh Hasina had instructed law enforcement to suppress any movement by any means necessary — even if it meant leaving bodies in the streets.
In July 2024, a student-led anti-discrimination movement began. Courageous activists from Islami Chhatra Shibir took leadership, raising various demands under the banner of general students and calling upon the nation to join the movement through unique programs. Despite internet blackouts and curfews, they not only protected their coordinators but also courageously exposed the crimes of Hasina and her allies to the global media.
During the quota reform movement, the government-imposed curfews, cut internet access, and issued restrictive orders that caused public hardship. With no work opportunities, Jasim Fakir spent the entire month of July at home. For twenty years, he had been living near Amirul Super Shop in Shafipur, Kaliakair, Gazipur, with his wife Sharmin Khanam (27) and their only daughter Tohfa Islam Tanha (7). As the movement reached its peak and the fall of the fascist government appeared inevitable, he left home on August 5 without informing anyone to join the uprising. He went missing for two days thereafter, and his family searched desperately, but to no avail.
Account of Martyrdom
Shahjahan had left home to do electrical work at a building site. His mother said, "He knew both electrical and workshop work. One of his uncles had told him about a job in a building in Dhanmondi. He left on Tuesday morning. His wife had prepared rice for him, but he did not eat. He had been working since morning. After noon, while others went out to eat, he started walking back home. He wasn’t feeling well. We don’t know what happened next. Later, we found his body at the hospital."
Main Incident
Tuesday, 17 July 2024. By afternoon, at 2 PM, students protesting peacefully in the Science Lab area were suddenly and violently attacked by ruling party student and youth wing members — the Chhatra League and Jubo League — armed with indigenous weapons. Meanwhile, Hasina’s loyal armed group stationed themselves in front of Dhaka College and opened random fire from a distance, targeting students. Many fell to the ground injured.
Under Hasina’s directive, this brutal and unprovoked attack on unarmed civilians and students stands as a heinous and reprehensible crime. Armed with machetes, sticks, and shotguns, the assailants advanced. Shahjahan, attempting to move away in fear, ran with students into a nearby alley of City College. Suddenly, a bullet fired by the attackers struck him.
From afternoon to evening, the area resembled a battlefield. Shahjahan lay on the street, bleeding and wounded, for hours. Eventually, a few teenagers braved the ongoing gunfire and rescued him from in front of City College, rushing him to Popular Medical Center. By then, his condition was critical. Though he was barely breathing, the bleeding was severe and uncontrollable. Unable to manage the situation, the hospital called an ambulance and transferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. There, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
His body was later identified at the morgue by his mother, Ayesha Begum, and uncle, Moslem Uddin.
Family’s Reaction
The grieving mother’s wails moved the Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Brigadier General Md. Asaduzzaman, who came to speak with her. She tearfully told him:
"Sir, my son had gone out to earn a living. Who killed him like this?"
Eyewitness accounts confirm the truth of Shahjahan’s martyrdom. Inspector Bacchu Miah of the DMCH police outpost reported that an ambulance driver brought in the body around 7:30 PM, with visible head trauma. Doctors confirmed his death upon examination.
Ambulance driver Ali Miah said he had gone to Popular Diagnostic Center near City College after receiving a call. There, people requested him to transport the boy to DMCH. Hridoy, a customer care representative at the center, stated that a group of boys brought Shahjahan in the evening in critical condition. After initial treatment, they called for an ambulance to send him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The Fascist Regime of Killer Hasina
Just two months after assuming office on December 29, 2008, the government orchestrated a massacre at Pilkhana on February 25–26, 2009, looting thousands of firearms and brutally murdering countless soldiers.
To discredit opposition parties, her regime launched systematic attacks on ordinary citizens, desecrated temples of the Hindu community and places of worship of other religions, committed mass killings, and perpetrated widespread rape — crafting a dark, violent, and tragic chapter in the nation's history. At the center of this cruelty stood Hasina and her ruthless agents.
Over the last 16 years, under the guise of governance, pro-India, anti-independence, radical communal, and notorious armed Awami League terrorists, with both domestic and international conspiracies, forcibly held power. In pursuit of power, they spread disinformation, fabricated stories, and created chaos to deceive the masses and destabilize the nation.
In 2024, by deteriorating law and order, they plunged the public into disorder and chaos. The fascist Hasina government orchestrated the mass murder of hundreds of innocent students and civilians. Additionally, they carried out arson attacks on the metro rail, Bangladesh Television, Setu Bhaban, data centers, and hospitals. They vandalized and looted Ganabhaban, the National Parliament, schools and colleges, factories, residences, and businesses.
In stark contrast, the previous government under Begum Khaleda Zia had captured and executed known militants, delivering security to the nation.
The Hasina government stands accused of being anti-independence, anti-Bangladesh, against the spirit of 1971, and a barbaric force subservient to India.
