Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Tanzir Khan Munna was born on October 23, 2003, in Savar, Dhaka district. His father’s name is Md. Raja Khan and his mother’s name is Amena Begum. He was a second-year Degree student at Savar Government College.
Context of Martyrdom
No one had the courage to overthrow a violent despot like Sheikh Hasina. Anyone who attempted such actions was completely eradicated from the country by the Awami League and their affiliates. Nationalist party BNP leaders were subjected to attacks, legal cases, intimidation, or bribery to be neutralized. Koko Rahman died of a stroke under Awami League’s torture. Tarique Rahman went into exile abroad. Despite the outcries from other leaders of the country, they failed to resist the Awami League when it mattered most.
Although extreme measures such as enforced disappearances, killings, arrests, and executions were imposed against Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, the Awami League ultimately failed in their objectives. They believed they could maintain power until 2040, and beyond, through hereditary succession by employing incompetent sycophants under the guise of fake freedom fighter quotas, thus plundering Bangladesh. However, courageous, determined, and sacrificial students like martyr Tanzir Khan shattered all these tyrannical plans.
Sheikh Hasina and her MPs often boasted that no force could defeat them. However, Sheikh Hasina’s arrogance led to her downfall. Even after killing unarmed students and citizens during the July movement, she could not survive politically and fled to India along with her younger sister.
Sheikh Hasina and her leftist allies realized that Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir were leading the movement. Consequently, on August 1, they banned these groups and planned genocide. By then, the common students and people had understood that the Awami League always branded patriotic protesters as Jamaat-Shibir and collaborators, subjecting them to brutal torture, enforced disappearances, and killings. This time, such oppression was to be inflicted on them. On August 4, the students resisted with bare hands, shocking Hasina’s administration and forcing Awami League terrorists to flee. On August 5, Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister gave orders for genocide and escaped.
Despite the great risks during the July movement, Munna was on the streets with his friends, actively participating and always at the forefront of rallies. On August 5, at approximately 6:30 PM, while returning from a victory rally celebrating the overthrow of tyranny, he was shot by police in front of Savar Medical College. He was later admitted to Enam Medical College in Savar, where doctors declared him dead.
Economic Condition
The martyr’s family does not own a home and currently resides at his paternal aunt’s house. His father has been ill for many years and lives at Munna’s uncle’s residence. The family’s sole breadwinner is Munna’s only brother, Rajib Khan, who works as a photographer in an event management studio. Their mother is diabetic and requires medication costing 3,500 Taka monthly.
