Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

From Responsibility to Martyrdom:
The Story of Shaheed Rothin Biswas
Serial: 779
ID: Dhaka Division: 154
Martyr’s Identity
In the tranquil village of Suyagram, nestled within the Shuyagram Union of Kotalipara Upazila in Gopalganj District, a courageous soul named Rothin Biswas was born. It was August 28, 1999, when this brave son of the soil came into the world, born to Daniel Biswas and Shefali Biswas. From childhood, Rothin embodied responsibility, independence, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Tragedy struck early. The death of his father, the physical disabilities of both his brother and sister, and the dire state of the household placed a mountain of responsibility on Rothin's young shoulders. He had no choice but to grow up quickly.
Though he left his home behind in search of work, he never abandoned his love for the nation. He moved to the capital, Dhaka, and took up a modest job as an office assistant at William Carey International School in West Rajabazar. The weight of his entire family rested on his earnings—feeding the household, paying for medical treatments, and trying to carve out a dignified life from poverty. His life revolved around his office duties, a tiny rented room, and his family.
But behind this humble existence lived a revolutionary soul—one that could not tolerate injustice, that stood against inequality, and burned with a desire for change.
August 5: The Day of Sacrifice
August 5, 2025—a date etched into history. That day, the streets of Dhaka surged with fury and hope as the people demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose regime had become synonymous with oppression and bloodshed. When Hasina eventually fled the country, waves of students and citizens filled the streets in celebration. Victory processions erupted near the Parliament Complex, a symbol of reclaimed hope.
Rothin Biswas was among them—undaunted, determined, his heart ablaze with resolve.
As the procession neared the Parliament, a sudden accident occurred: a shard of glass fell and struck Rothin on the head. Blood poured down his face. He was in pain, wounded—but he did not waver.
He was rushed to Neurosciences Hospital. Despite every effort, death came too soon. Rothin became a martyr on the battlefield of justice—a young man who carried not just his family's future, but a part of the nation's as well.
The next day, his lifeless body was brought back to the village where he once played, dreamed, and grew up. He was laid to rest in the yard of his childhood home, next to his father’s grave, in accordance with Christian rites. The skies that day hung heavy, and the wind wept with those left behind.
A Family in Grief
In a trembling voice, Rothin’s sister-in-law Madhabi Baroi shared,
“My husband is physically disabled, and my sister-in-law is also disabled. It was Rothin who held our family together. Since August 5, we’ve been lost. He was our strength, our hope. We loved him like a son. Now… how will we survive?”
Her words echo the grief not just of a family, but of a nation that watched one of its most courageous sons fall far too soon. Rothin’s untimely death is not only a personal tragedy—it is a national loss.
Official Acknowledgement
The Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj, Muhammad Kamruzzaman, stated:
“We have visited the home of Shaheed Rothin Biswas. The district administration will stand beside his family. Instructions have already been issued to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer to arrange disability allowances and medical support for Rothin’s brother and sister.”
Rothin was not just an office worker. He was an unconquerable warrior—a man whose moral clarity, sense of justice, and ultimate sacrifice will forever be inscribed in our nation’s memory.
Economic Recommendations
Rothin Biswas was the sole financial support for his family. After his death, they face severe economic hardship. The following urgent measures are recommended:
1. Disability Allowances: Lifetime disability benefits must be ensured for his brother and sister.
2. Monthly Government Stipend: At least BDT 15,000 per month should be provided to the family.
3. Permanent Housing Support: A new home should be built, or housing assistance granted.
4. One-Time Financial Grant: At least BDT 1,000,000 should be provided for family rehabilitation.
5. Employment for a Family Member: A government or institutional job opportunity should be offered to one member of Rothin’s family.
