Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Sabbir Hossain was a construction worker. His blood energized this movement and brought victory. Sabbir Hossain, the son of a poor family, was the eldest of his parents' three children. He was a Hafiz of 10 paras (Juzz) of the Quran. Before that, he studied up to the 6th grade. He left his studies to support his family and took the path of earning.
Background of Martyrdom
The July Revolution was the final combined explosive outburst of all the oppressed at all levels. Our martyrs showed the way to this mass revolution. By sacrificing their Allah-given lives, they entrusted us with the responsibility of building a democratic Bangladesh based on equality and humanity. We achieved victory on August 5th. This victory involved many sacrifices. Many, many lives were lost.
Due to the long sixteen years of fascist misrule and authoritarian government, every person in Bangladesh was a victim, they were angry. People of almost every class and profession were oppressed and persecuted under this Baksali rule, regardless of party, opinion, religion, or caste. Even those who (knowingly/unknowingly) laid the foundation of fascism were not spared from being victimized by the fascists.
This movement is a movement standing on the blood of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a movement standing on the memory of Shaheed Mir Mugdho. It is a movement standing on the sacrifice of the rickshaw puller brother who was martyred while continuously chanting slogans against misrule. Thousands of martyrs showed us the way to a new destination. Just as the upper echelons of society contributed to this movement, the most disadvantaged groups of society were also the vanguard of the movement.
From tech-savvy kids in English medium schools to students of Qawmi-Aliya madrasas, from Shahbagh-Dhanmondi-Mirpur-Uttara-Savar to Jatrabari, which became the Stalingrad of Bengal, this revolution was yours, mine, everyone's, across cities, towns, and villages. The voice of the revolution spread from the courtyard of Dhaka University to every university, school, and college. This voice further energized the private universities. And the anti-discrimination student movement became the voice of the common people. This revolution belonged to the workers and day laborers.
Sabbir worked in Uttara. On July 18, the anti-discrimination protesters built a huge movement. Meanwhile, the government, to suppress the movement, killed many fresh, innocent people. On July 18, people took to the streets to protest the killings. Every human being took to the streets, asking the question, "Why was my brother killed?" When they were pounced upon like ferocious hyenas in response to this question, our martyrs stood as the vanguard of the struggle.
A valiant confluence of students and the public in Uttara-BNS-Azampur. The police, Youth League, and Chhatra League's armed killing forces pounced on the innocent, unarmed students and the public. The area turned into a battlefield.
Sabbir went out after lunch to buy medicine. He got caught in the clash. At approximately 3 o'clock, a police bullet pierced Sabbir's neck. The protesting students quickly took him to Uttara Crescent Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. He was taken to his village home. After the funeral at 10 am on July 19, he was buried in the local Mirzapur graveyard.
Feelings of Relatives and Friends
His father said, "I heard the first call of 'Dad' from his voice. My first child. How can I accept his death? I cannot bear it."
Friend Atul Kumar Biswas said, “We grew up together. How many places we visited together. How much work we did. Sabbir Hossain was a very good man, a good friend.”
His sister Sumaiya said, “My brother didn't belong to any party. My innocent brother never got into any kind of quarrel with anyone. He worked and supported the family. Who shall we go to? To whom shall we seek justice? We demand justice for those who killed my brother.”
According to his cousin Tanmoy Ahmed Turu, “Sabbir was a gentle, polite, and calm-tempered person. He would not harm anyone.” They were also good friends. He demands justice for his murder.
Family Condition
Sabbir's father is a poor farmer. Seeing his hardship in carrying the burden of the family, Sabbir gave up his studies. He focused on earning. He supported his family by working as a construction worker. With his death, the family now faces an uncertain future. They are in extreme financial hardship. They are going through a difficult life.
