Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Martyr Introduction
The breeze of Kalidaspur, a peaceful village in Chandkhali, still carries the silent cry of a young man with dreams in his eyes and resolve in his heart. That young man was Rokibul Hasan , a humble and determined student. He was in his 4th year of studying Political Science at Khulna B.L. College. As the only son of his parents, he was known by many names—beloved "Roki" to his mother, a bright light to his family, and a quiet force of justice to his community.
Early Life and Childhood
Rokibul was born in the quiet corners of Chandkhali in Paikgacha, Khulna. His childhood was rooted in the scent of village soil, surrounded by the simplicity of rural life. From an early age, he was exceptionally brilliant. His love for books and his devotion to the country defined him. His teachers often remarked, "This boy will change society one day."
Struggles and Work
Family lived in extreme poverty. His father, Rafiqul Islam, was blind in one eye and ran a small tea stall in Chandkhali Bazaar to barely support the family. Rokibul often helped his father after classes—washing tea cups, fetching sugar or puffed rice for the shop. Balancing the weight of education and family responsibilities, he moved forward with patience and pride. He had a younger sister still attending school, but after her brother’s tragic death, her education now hangs in the balance.
Economic Hardship
Rokibul was the only son and had no land or property to his name. His father’s small stall brought in minimal income, barely enough for survival. Despite the hardships, Rokibul dreamt only of completing his education and serving his country. That dream, however, now rests among faded pages of memory.
Joining the Movement: July–August 2024 Uprising
The July of 2024 will forever be etched in Bangladesh’s history as a time of fire and fury. Students and citizens alike united against decades of injustice and oppression. Rokibul was one of the brave voices—not for politics, but for justice. On August 5, 2024, as part of the nationwide celebration of victory, a flag-hoisting event was organized at Chandkhali Bazaar. Rakibul was filled with pride and said, “I will raise the flag with my own hands.” To him, that flag symbolized freedom, belief, and hope.
How He Was Martyred
That day, August 5, 2024—Chandkhali Bazaar was packed with people awaiting the flag-hoisting ceremony. Rokibul stepped up on the stage with the flag in his hand. But just then, a power line snapped and fell near the platform. As Rokibul raised the flag, he came into contact with the wet platform and the live wire—he was instantly electrocuted. He collapsed on the stage. Silence spread across the crowd, followed by cries and disbelief. Who could have known the very flag he cherished would take his life?
Burial Site
Martyr Rokibul Islam was laid to rest in his village's family graveyard. Near his grave still lies his old notebook, the last page of which reads:
“My country, my flag, my belief—this is my life.”
Family Reflections
His mother, Rebeka Khatun, still calls out, “Roki, you said you'd build me a better home. Instead, you left me in eternal silence.”
A former teacher shared, “Rokibul wasn’t just brilliant in studies, he was an extraordinary human being. A true patriot.”
Rokibul ’s martyrdom is not just a loss—it is a story of a youth who embraced death while raising the flag, reminding future generations of what true sacrifice means. His life and death compel us to honor the spirit of justice, freedom, and dignity.
Economic Proposals for the Family
The martyr’s family now desperately needs support to survive and rebuild:
• Proposal 1: Provide inventory and furniture support to improve the father’s tea stall and help restore some economic stability.
• Proposal 2: Offering a cow or goat to the family could provide a sustainable income source and support the sister’s continued education.
