Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Shaheed Alamgir Molla (42) was the eldest son of the late Kalam Molla (75) and Minara Begum (65) from Gopal Kathi village in Bemarta Union, located near the Bhairab River in Bagerhat Sadar.
About eight years ago, he moved to Dhaka. Due to threats from local Awami League terrorists and the need to earn a livelihood, he was forced to relocate to the capital along with his wife, son, and elderly parents. In Merul Badda, he ran a tea shop to support his family.
Family Life
Shaheed Alamgir Molla’s father was a farmer, and his mother was a homemaker. His wife, Murshida Begum (30), is also a homemaker. He had four siblings: Reba Begum, Shiuli Begum, Shefali Begum, and Mamun Molla.
Among his three children, his eldest son, Md. Sagar Molla (21), was a student at Tejgaon Polytechnic College, Dhaka. However, due to financial difficulties, he could not pay his exam fees and was unable to take the HSC exam. After his father's martyrdom, he started driving an electric rickshaw to support the family. His second child, Asha Akter (18), is married, while his youngest son, Raif Hasan Hridoy (7), is a student at a local Hafezia Madrasa. Currently, Murshida Begum and her youngest son are staying in Netrokona.
Incident Details
Alamgir Molla actively participated in protests against the fascist Awami government on the streets of Dhaka. On August 5, he joined a student-led anti-discrimination movement and mass uprising rally. Around 12:00 PM, when the rally reached Merul Badda Police Station, the police opened fire indiscriminately, and Alamgir Molla was shot near his waist.
He became critically injured and immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but he was denied treatment. Later, he was admitted to Shyamoli City Care Hospital, a private facility. According to his family, on August 7, doctors performed surgery to remove two bullets from his body. However, his condition worsened, and at 12:05 AM on August 8, he succumbed to his injuries, embracing martyrdom.
Funeral and Burial
At dawn, his body was transported via ambulance to his native Gopal Kathi village in Bagerhat, where a heart-wrenching scene unfolded as relatives, neighbors, and well-wishers mourned his loss. Later in the afternoon, thousands of worshippers attended his funeral prayers at the local Eidgah field, after which he was laid to rest in the family graveyard. The family has not received any government assistance so far. However, financial support was provided by:
• Jamaat-e-Islami: ৳200,000
• Al-Sunnah Foundation: ৳100,000
• Bagerhat Municipal Jubo Dal General Secretary, Sheikh Omar Ali Munna: ৳30,000
• Former Bagerhat Sadar MP, M.A.H. Selim: Cheque of ৳100,000
Statements from Relatives
Shefali Begum (28), Alamgir Molla’s sister, stated:

Moniruzzaman (55), a neighboring uncle, shared:
"Alamgir was fearless. He sacrificed his life for the country. He was a kind-hearted person who never engaged in disputes with anyone."
His eldest son, Md. Sagar Molla, requested the government to rename Gopal Kathi Road after his father, Shaheed Alamgir Molla.
