Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

Suruj is the name of an extraordinary young man who grew up in a poor family. Martyr Babu Mia (Suruj) is one of those who are remembered in the history of the world for struggling against injustice and oppression. Suruj Ali Babu was born on October 3, 1983, to father Nowsher Ali and mother Rahela. His birthplace is Shaldah village under Kushtia Sadar police station. From his childhood, he was known in the area as a gentle, polite, and well-mannered boy. He had good relations with relatives and neighbours. The family lived on the limited income of his father, who was from a poor background. As a result, he could not advance far in his studies. Being the eldest child of his father in a family of nine, including three sisters and four brothers, he took the burden of the family on his own shoulders.
To bring prosperity to the family, Suruj Ali Babu used to sell potato stew and fuchka. Later, after learning the work of a goldsmith, in 2022, he started a goldsmith's shop in Kushtia city by renting a shop with some of his savings and borrowed money. At the beginning of his youth, he got married to a girl named Sayma. They have two daughters and a son. The eldest daughter studies in Alim class, the son, Faisal Ahmed, studies Nazra in Hafizia Madrasa, and the youngest daughter, Rubaiya, studies in the nursery class of the Madrasa. Their studies have become uncertain as their only earning father has been martyred.
Background of Martyrdom
The story of Shaheed Suruj's life is like a tearful and tragic history of sorrow. He was the only earning member of the family of his wife and three children. He had started working with great difficulty by taking a goldsmith's shop. The family was doing well then. He had enrolled all three children in the madrasa to educate them in religious studies. His dream was for his son to become a Hafiz and for his daughters to grow up with religious ideals. But on August 5th, with the police bullet's hit, the lamp of his life went out, and his cherished dreams came to an end.
For some time, the students' quota reform movement had been going on. He had been supporting the students' movement for the construction of a discrimination-free society. But the terrorist student organization Chhatra League and the killer Jubo League were unleashed on the peaceful student movement, injuring numerous students. After the start of the one-point movement, he also actively participated in the turbulent sea of people that arose demanding the resignation of the killer, fascist Sheikh Hasina.
On August 5th, when the students and the public were on the verge of victory, he left home at 10 am that day and joined the anti-discrimination students and the public in the Burmese lane on NS Road next to the Kushtia Sadar police station. During the movement, the Alpha team, led by the Daroga Saheb Ali of the Sadar police station, opened fire indiscriminately. Around 3 to 4 pm, the brave warrior of the movement, Shaheed Suruj Ali, was shot in the middle of his stomach. He collapsed instantly on the ground. When his comrades quickly rescued him and took him to the Sadar Hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
Statements of close relatives and father-in-law about the martyr
From his childhood, Shaheed Babu Mia (Suruj) was very brave, gentle, and benevolent. He would rush to help people in distress. His father-in-law, night watchman Abdul Wahab, said, "My son-in-law was a very good man. He used to meet me every day on his way home from the shop. He loved me very much. I also loved him like my son. My heart becomes heavy with sorrow when I remember him." Locals said that the country had lost a brave warrior and patriotic citizen.
Family's Economic Condition
Shaheed Suruj Ali passed away leaving behind his elderly mother, wife, and three children. With his death, wailing began in the family. Now they are worried about how they will live and how they will run the household expenses. The family has nothing to call assets. They hope that the wealthy people of the society will come forward so that some light can return to their lives.
