Life Journey of Shaheed Mustakin
Due to financial hardship, his education stopped after the 4th grade. Before that, he also studied in a madrasa for some time. To financially support his father, he started working as a sanitary worker. His father had a tea shop next to the fire service office on the main road. Mr. Lokman also worked as a cook. Their family lived amidst various struggles.
Previous Background
On the afternoon of July 17, there was a chase and counter-chase incident between quota reform movement activists and Chhatra League members in Kushtia. The protesters were stationed at Mazampur Gate on the Kushtia-Jhinaidah highway, demanding quota reform. They staged a sit-in there with various slogans. They stayed at Mazampur Gate for about an hour. When a procession of the Chhatra League reached Mazampur Gate, at the request of the police, the quota movement students moved from Mazampur Gate to Chourhas intersection. After this incident, Chhatra League activists gathered inside the municipality with sticks and rods. Taking out a procession from there, they marched on NS Road. At around 5 pm, they headed towards Chourhas intersection with 30 to 40 motorcycles and sticks in their hands. At this time, ignoring three police barricades, Chhatra League activists attacked the quota movement rally. They tried to create panic by throwing sound bombs.
The Day of Martyrdom
The extreme brutality inflicted on the common people could no longer be tolerated by the "terrorist Hasina." The August 5th program towards Ganobhaban forced her to step down from power. Upon hearing the news of Sheikh Hasina's departure from the country, the protesting students and people of Kushtia celebrated at the Mazampur Gate of the city. Thousands of students and people surrounded the Kushtia Model Police Station. On the day of the incident, August 5th, in the morning, he went to Kushtia General Hospital with food for his father. Returning from there, he mingled with the crowd of students and people. At this time, BGB and army personnel stood between the police and the public, urging the police to disarm and refrain from shooting. But the killer police, unleashed by the autocratic government, did not stop shooting. At one-point, unarmed teenager Abdullah fell to the ground after being shot by the police.
The bullet pierced his chest and exited from the other side. Several others were also injured by the shooting and fell to the ground. The army and BGB officers standing nearby were then at a loss as to what to do. The police indiscriminately fired and retreated from the police station to the police lines. At this moment of victory, between 2 and 3 pm, six people were killed. According to Abdullah's family, Abdullah, in a family of three siblings, had both parents sick and unemployed. Teenage Abdullah supported his family by working as a sanitary worker. His death has left the entire family helpless. There is no one left to pay for Abdullah's father's medical expenses.
