Description of the Martyrdom
The country's quota reform movement had reached its peak. Dhaka and the entire country were in turmoil. The Awami autocratic government, which had been illegally in power for a decade and a half, was carrying out inhumane torture on the protesting students. Instead of finding any solution to the justified movement for quota reform, they adopted a cruel policy to suppress it. The government's vigilante forces, namely Chhatra League and the police, used rubber bullets, shotgun pellets, baton charges, and the deadliest of all, live bullets to pierce the chests of the students. On July 19, 2024, after Friday prayers, Alamgir went to his workplace. Students were protesting in Rampura, and the police were indiscriminately shooting at the innocent students, along with baton charges. The common people were so fed up with the Awami terrorism that had been going on for nearly a decade and a half that they could not be suppressed even after such brutal acts. As time passed, the intensity of the movement increased, and then suddenly, shooting started from the sky. Some people were injured when shots were fired from a helicopter. Martyr Alamgir went downstairs to provide water to the injured students who were participating in the movement. On his way back, at approximately 2:30 to 3:00 PM, a police bullet entered his right shoulder and lodged in his chest. The students and people with him immediately took him to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Funeral and Burial
Without any post-mortem examination, the body was brought to his village home late on July 20. On July 21, the martyr's namaz-e-janaza was held and he was buried socially.
How Martyr Alamgir Was
Martyr Alamgir was a very generous person in his personal life. He was a selfless person since childhood. He always extended a helping hand to everyone in need. This is reflected in the words of his uncle. His distant uncle Firoz said, "Alamgir was a very good boy. He would rush to help anyone who was in trouble. When I see his two children, I cannot hold back my tears." His words were reflected in the movement. Martyr Alamgir Sheikh was helping the protesters in various ways, including arranging treatment for the injured students, bringing water for the students to drink, and so on. While helping others, he sacrificed his life and left an example of sacrificing himself for the sake of humanity. This self-sacrifice of his will inspire all those who have taken the vow of human service for ages to come.
Family Condition
With the loss of the main source of income for the family, the martyr's family is facing various crises. His youngest brother, Azad, said that they have become destitute after the death of his brother. The entire cost of the children's education was borne by their elder brother. The martyr's wife is worried about raising her two young children. She is living with her children in her husband's house.
