Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

How much more injustice will Sheikh Hasina and her cohorts commit before they find peace? How many more lives will they take before their monstrous attitude disappears? How much blood do they need to quench their thirst? Is this how Awami League chief Sheikh Mujibur Rahman oppressed ordinary people from 1971 to 1975? Taking this as a lesson, his daughter Sheikh Hasina has now killed thousands of innocent people from 2008 to 2024, imprisoned and tortured them, hanged them, and thousands of our sisters have been raped and gang-raped by her pet terrorist student organization, Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Seeing so much injustice, Hamid Sheikh could no longer bear it. He participated in the movement to protest the injustice, playing a leading role on the streets with the students for the overthrow of the autocrat. Finally, he brought a bright sun into the sky of Bangladesh's destiny and bid farewell forever.
Brief Biography of Shaheed Md. Hamid Sheikh
Md. Hamid Sheikh was born in 1997 in Pantita village, Terokhada, Khulna. His father's name is Md. Jafar Sheikh. His mother's name is Rashida Begum. Md. Hamid Sheikh is the eldest of three siblings. He has a younger sister and a younger brother. Although he was supposed to receive many opportunities as the eldest son of the family, he did not receive them due to family poverty. They were an extremely poor family. His father was a van driver. The family survived on the income of his van driver father. The house they lived in had only two dilapidated walls. His father struggled to provide three meals a day. Although his hardworking father could not provide him with educational opportunities, he was able to instill sufficient honesty in his son. When the hardship of the four-member family reached a critical level, the son, Md. Hamid Sheikh, came to the garment industry to earn money to help the family. His father said, "My son handed over all the money from his first salary to me. When he came home, he would buy new clothes for me and his mother. He would also buy new clothes for his younger siblings on various occasions."
That Tragic Day
He was a very simple and straightforward person. At the beginning of the movement, he joined the student-public rally with his friends. He had a gentle demeanor, regularly inquiring about the well-being of his neighbors. As a responsible brother, he paid for his younger brother's education. In addition to running the household, he took care of all aspects of his parents. He said to his mother, "Mom, I am going to do a noble deed, don't you want me to be a martyr? Pray for me. And forgive me, I may not come back. Because the autocratic Sheikh Hasina, who has been illegally in power for 15-16 years, is leaving. At this time, she may use all her might. She will kill ordinary people without hesitation. Even then, we will ignore her bloodshot eyes and make this movement successful, Inshallah."
His mother said, crying, "Son, don't do this. There is no one else to run my family except you. If you are lost, we will also be lost. There are many people to protest, let them do it. You are the son of a poor man, what difference will it make if victory comes or not? The poor do not benefit from a free country; only the rich enjoy the taste of independence." Hamid said, "No, Mom, the account of profit and loss will be with Allah. I am going to fulfill my moral duty. Allah has commanded me to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. I am going to forbid what is wrong, I am going to fight against the mass murderer Sheikh Hasina. For 15 years, Sheikh Hasina has killed thousands of people through her party cadres. She has crippled our country's prestigious army. She has made our country's economy dysfunctional. This country must be saved, otherwise, the fascist government will erase the name of Bangladesh from the face of the earth." Then there was nothing left for his mother to do but cry. His mother said, "May Allah bless you."
Monday, August 5th. Everyone was out of their homes in celebration of the victory. Men, women, young, and old, everyone took out a joyous procession. Md. Hamid Sheikh went out with everyone in that joyous procession at 12 noon, but he did not yet understand that this would be his last time leaving home, and he would not return. Md. Hamid Sheikh reached in front of Ashulia police station with everyone in the victory procession. He was almost at the front of the procession.
Suddenly, Hamid Sheikh heard the sound of gunshots, along with people running helter-skelter. Seeing the situation, Hamid himself started running. Seeing people around him shot, he did not want to leave them behind and come back. He went forward to help the injured, even though the environment was not favorable. In this situation, two bullets hit him in the neck and chest. Although he was later taken to Gonoshasthya Hospital to be saved, Md. Hamid Sheikh died on the spot. No one could have imagined that the police would shoot like this. The police are also children of some mother in our own country. They are paid with our hard-earned money. The bullets in their hands were bought with our tax money.
They were given weapons to eliminate terrorists. They took the weapons with the promise that, "We will protect the peace of the country, we will eliminate injustice." But they took the side of injustice, the side of the oppressive government, and killed ordinary people so indiscriminately; no one had imagined this. Ah! Perhaps they feel no pain in pulling the trigger with one finger and firing the bullet, but with one bullet, not only one life is lost, but along with the passing of one life, the livelihood of many people is also lost. The family members who were dependent on the son may now, after losing that son, have to pick up a beggar's bowl.
A Colleague's Feelings
He had a great relationship with friends, family, and neighbors. His mindset of helping and expressing sympathy was unique. To help his family, he dropped out of school and started his career as a garment worker. In this context, he started living in Dhamrai, Ashulia. He always spoke with a smile to the garment workers he worked with. He received a lot of praise as a colleague.
Father's Feelings:
They were an extremely poor family. His father was a van driver. The family survived on the income of his van driver father. The house they lived in had only two dilapidated walls. His father struggled to provide three meals a day. When the hardship of the four-member family reached a critical level, the son, Md. Hamid Sheikh, came to the garment industry to earn money to help the family. His father said, "My son handed over all the money from his first salary to me. When he came home, he would buy new clothes for me and his mother. He would also buy new clothes for his younger siblings on various occasions. He loved his family more than his own life."
Family's Economic Condition
As a responsible brother, he paid for the education of his younger brother and sister. In addition to running the household, he took care of all aspects of his parents. He said to his mother, "Mom, I am going to do a noble deed, don't you want me to be a martyr? Pray for me. Forgive me." Md. Hamid Sheikh's father is now a van driver. He is now living a very difficult life with his remaining four family members.
