Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
Martyrs are symbols of our pride, and they are stars that perfume our sky with their fragrant blood. Our earth is illuminated by the color of the martyrs' holy blood. People who dedicate their entire lives to national issues are rare. They possess the highest ideals, the freedom of their people. Shaheed Alam Sardar was one such person. He was born on March 3, 1988, in Hijla village, Ashashuni police station, Satkhira district. In Bangladesh, it is a rare privilege for someone born into a poor family to get an education, because even after achieving independence for a long time, the taste of this independence has not yet reached the homes of the poor. Alam Sardar, being born into a poor family, did not get much opportunity to study. To alleviate the poverty of his family, he worked in other people's fields from a young age. It is clear that he was different from others, because he played a leading role in establishing truth. He was pure-hearted, enterprising, affectionate, and smiled at everyone, but he did not tolerate injustice; he always fought against it. Leaving behind his wife, son, and two daughters at home, he embraced martyrdom on August 5, 2024, by the bullets of the autocratic Awami League terrorists.
Shaheed Alam Sardar was one of the leading figures of the protest. In these protests, which lasted from July to August 5, 2024, he did not separate himself for a single moment; on the contrary, according to his fellow participants, they were inspired by Alam's courageous actions.
Shaheed Alam Sardar regularly received news from his neighbors about the anti-autocracy protest march that was taking place demanding quota reform for students and the general public. He always said, "If I got the chance, I would definitely join this movement." On 05.08.2024, like the rest of the country, the wave of the movement crashed in Satkhira district as well. Every part of this land, soaked in the martyr's blood, became turbulent. From noon onwards, the news of the dictator's escape spread everywhere. At 3 pm, the student-public protest march, with the participation of thousands of people, turned into a victory procession for the fall of the autocrat.
When the victory procession advanced slightly from Pratapnagar Bazar, at 4 pm, armed Jubo League and Chhatra League terrorists, led by Pratapnagar Upazila Chairman and local Awami League leader Sheikh Zakir Hossain, attacked and opened fire on the procession. At one point, many people were injured and killed on the spot by the bullets from Sheikh Zakir's pistol and shotgun. Shaheed Alam Sardar participated from the front line of the procession and was seriously injured by the bullets. The marching students and the public quickly took him to the local hospital, where the doctor declared him dead. Shaheed Alam Sardar regularly participated in all kinds of social activities. He was known to everyone as a philanthropist. He always said to his neighbors and wife, "Pray that I may be martyred."
