Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
Martyr Mohammad Al-Amin was born on January 10, 1989, in Barunatail, a beautiful village in Magura district. The village is part of Ward No. 1 of Magura Municipality. His father's name is Md. Abu Taleb Biswas and his mother's name is Mosammat Surya Begum. He was born into the home of a poor CNG driver. Therefore, they struggled with poverty from a young age. His only sibling is his brother, Md. Ruhul Amin. He spent his childhood in a happy environment with him.
The Moment of Martyrdom
Shaheed Al Amin did not have the opportunity to study much. So, he hawked on the streets to support his family. The limited income from hawking was barely enough to cover the family's expenses. He was known to everyone as a philanthropist. When the student-public movement demanding quota reform began, Shaheed Al Amin participated in rallies at various times alongside his hawking. Within a short time, the quota reform movement turned into a mass movement of people across the country and quickly spread throughout the country.
Shaheed Al Amin also regularly participated in the student-public anti-autocracy protest march. He would regularly join the rallies in between his hawking. The day was August 5, 2024. On that day, like the rest of the country, people from all walks of life in Savar took to the streets in solidarity with the anti-discrimination student-public long march program. Shaheed Al Amin participated in the student-public movement's rally for the fall of the autocrat held near Savar police station. All the people from around Savar gathered and blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway, and the entire Savar market and all the alleys were filled with people. The entire region, including Savar market and Thana Road area, became turbulent with thunderous protest slogans in the rallies.
At around 1 pm, the killer police and RAB of the autocratic government suddenly started firing tear shells, sound grenades, and bullets at the rally. Shaheed Al Amin, along with hundreds of others, was immediately shot and fell to the ground. With the help of local students and the public, the seriously injured Al Amin was admitted to the local Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. His pulse could not be found despite repeated attempts. The doctors tried several times by applying chest compressions, but Shaheed Al Amin did not regain consciousness. At 3 pm, the doctor on duty declared him dead while undergoing treatment.
Along the Thorny Path of Unbearable Pain
Those who broke the shackles of exploitation, we will not forget you, We will not forget you.
Funeral and Burial
His wife and some close relatives of the family left the hospital morgue on the evening of August 5 with his body and headed for his village home in Magura. The next day, on August 6, the martyr's funeral prayers were held in his village. People of all classes and professions in the area participated in the martyr's funeral. After the funeral, Shaheed Al Amin was buried in the family graveyard.
Feelings of Close Relatives and Mother about the Martyr
Shaheed Al Amin's neighbors say, "He was friendly and amiable. He had no complaints or regrets about his limited income."
The martyr's mother says, "My son lived his life with great honesty and regularly sent me money. Whenever he came home, he would bring me so many fruits! Now my family is in dire straits. Who will take care of us?"
Current Economic Condition of the Martyr's Family
Shaheed Al Amin's economic condition is not very good. He used to support his family by hawking and working as a day laborer in the Savar area. Currently, there is no means of daily income. With no other earning member in the family, they now live a life of starvation and semi-starvation. Other members of Shaheed Al Amin's family, i.e., his parents, live in their village home in Magura. Shaheed Al Amin's father, who is over sixty years old, still drives a CNG to earn a living, so Shaheed Al-Amin regularly had to provide financial assistance to his village home as well. Shaheed's wife, Sumi Begum, currently works in other people's homes. She lives with her two daughters in extreme hardship. The elder daughter is disabled, so her education has stopped. The younger daughter regularly goes to school, but due to lack of money, her schooling has become impossible. With no other earning member in Shaheed Al Amin's family and the head of the family martyred, the family is devastated with grief.
