Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
Md. Sajjad Hossain was born on April 10, 1995, in the Kamal Kachna area of Rangpur. He was the first son of Md. Babu Mia and Mosammat Moyna Begum.
Education
Sajjad’s father was a fruit seller by profession. He had dreamed of educating his son and making him a respectable person in society. However, fate had a cruel twist—his father passed away at an early stage of Sajjad’s life, leaving him to grow up with the pain of losing his family’s pillar of support.
Sajjad belonged to a family of eight members, including his siblings. The only property they had was two decimals of land left by his late father. Due to severe financial struggles, Sajjad could not continue his formal education beyond the 5th grade.
Professional Life
From childhood, Sajjad engaged in a tough battle for survival. As the responsibility of the family fell upon him, he joined his late father’s fruit-selling business to support his family. However, due to the oppressive government’s continuous increase in essential commodity prices, his small earnings were barely enough to sustain an eight-member household. This financial crisis forced him to send his younger brother to work instead of school.
Despite poverty, Sajjad lived happily with his small family on Shikhangon Road in Rangpur City Corporation.
Sajjad’s Family
Sajjad had a wife and a beautiful, innocent daughter. His daughter, at such a tender age, was orphaned. Whenever asked about her father, her face turned pale with grief. Losing her father left a deep wound in her heart. Sajjad’s wife, devastated by his loss, remained speechless in sorrow.
Incident of Martyrdom
On Friday, July 19, 2024, as part of his daily routine, Sajjad went out early in the morning for work. He later returned home for Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers. After praying and having lunch, he went back to the City Market to continue selling fruits.
As soon as he arrived, he witnessed police officers and armed terrorists from Awami League and Chhatra League firing relentlessly at unarmed students. Seeing this injustice, Sajjad joined the anti-discrimination student movement and actively participated in the protests against the tyrannical government. During the protest, a bullet fired by the police pierced through his left rib and exited through his right rib, also injuring his right hand.
According to an eyewitness, Shah Alam, Sajjad was seen lying injured near Rangpur City Market around 4:30 PM. Upon closer inspection, he realized that Sajjad had already embraced martyrdom. Some bystanders rushed Sajjad to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Brutality Against Sajjad’s Body
When Sajjad’s body was brought home, the Awami League-backed terrorists prevented the mosque authorities from making an announcement about his martyrdom. The next day, on July 20 at 11 AM, Sajjad was finally laid to rest in the local Graveyard.
Call for Justice
Sajjad, an orphaned and hardworking man who earned his living honestly, was brutally murdered in broad daylight by Awami League-backed terrorists, including members of Chhatra League, Jubo League, and police forces. The local residents and Sajjad’s grieving family have demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
May Allah accept his martyrdom.
