How He Was Martyred
On July 20, students of Ta’mirul Millat Kamil Madrasa (Tongi Campus) gathered near Gazipura Asia Pump, chanting slogans and starting a protest march. Suddenly, the police opened fire on the procession. At around 3:30 PM, a bullet struck Nasir Islam’s chest.
His fellow protesters immediately rushed him to Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka Cantonment. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:50 PM, attaining martyrdom.
His Father’s Reaction
Nasir’s father, Md. Ashraful Islam, expressed his grief:
"I don’t know how many fathers are blessed with such a son. If he ever needed 200 Taka, he would ask for exactly that amount and would return any leftover money, even if it was just 5 or 10 Taka. I always tried to give him extra, but he was honest to the core. That day (July 20), at 5 PM, I received a call from a doctor using my son’s phone. He told me, ‘Your son has had an accident. Please come to Kurmitola Hospital immediately.’ I rushed there, but I never got to see my son’s face alive again. What was my son’s fault?"
