Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
On July 14, 2001, Hafiz Redwan was born in the Rangpur District's Jhatupara village of Badarganj Thana. Despite leading a difficult life, his mother, Mosammat Mallika Khatun, and father, Md. Saidul Islam, made sure their son was ready for the hereafter by converting him to Hafiz. Saidul Islam relocated his family to Dhaka after realizing how challenging it was to raise their kids in the village. Because of his mild demeanor and regard for his parents, Hafiz Redwan was the most adored of his four brothers. He was quite respectful of his parents. About a year ago, Redwan married Rukaiya Khatun from Gopalganj, and their home is now brightened by their six-month-old son, Bayezid Bostami.
Hafiz Redwan's eldest brother lives separately, while his younger two brothers are studying at a Quranic school. Despite financial challenges, their Islamic family lived in peace and happiness. When the world-renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee passed away as a martyr, Hafiz Redwan dreamed of raising his child in the same way as Sayedee, hoping the child would become a learned person. Unfortunately, Redwan will not live to see this dream fulfilled, as he was taken away from this world by some people, pawns of the tyrannical ruler Sheikh Hasina.
The Incident of Martyrdom
Those who were called to sacrifice their lives in the path of God for a free, newly liberated life—what crime had Hafiz Redwan committed? Why did his father have to carry his son's coffin on his shoulders? Why did the cries of his mother make the skies and the earth heavy? Why did his loved ones and religious brothers have to hear the heart-wrenching cries of grief? There was only one reason: "They (the believers) took revenge on them for one thing alone: that they believed in Allah, the Almighty, the Praiseworthy, the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth."
Death is inevitable for everyone—some die a natural death, while others face unnatural deaths. Some deaths, however, become memorable. Hafiz Redwan always wished for such a memorable death. Death is an unavoidable truth; no one can escape it. The deeds of people make them immortal. Even after death, they remain eternal in people's memories. In this way, the Shaheed Hafiz Redwan, who sacrificed his life for the sake of Allah, will forever be remembered.
On August 5, 2024, Hafiz Redwan joined the march demanding the liberation of the country. From the morning, clashes broke out between the police, Awami League terrorist groups, and the students and the public who participated in the anti-discrimination student movement. Though the student public had been protesting for a long time for their rightful demands, success finally came at noon on that day. Even after the success, later in the evening, police fired repeatedly at the students and the public gathered at Azampur, Uttara. Among the protesting crowd was Hafiz Redwan. He was always at the front of the protests, thinking that if the entire country could be freed, this place could also be liberated. When the tyrant mass murderer Sheikh Hasina resigned, he believed her terrorist police force would not be able to fight the public for long. He was right, but suddenly four bullets fired by the police struck his body. One of the bullets lodged in his shoulder. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but, not receiving proper treatment, he was later taken to Dhaka Medical College, where he passed away the next day at 9 PM while undergoing treatment.
Hafiz Redwan's Character and Conduct
Before reaching adulthood, Hafiz Redwan had committed himself to Islam and was always devoted to his faith, despite the cold, rain, or storms. He would go to the mosque for prayer and read the Qur'an afterward. The Qur'an was his constant companion, and he would always recite it. He was honest in his actions, and his tear-filled eyes reflected his sincerity and devotion to the Almighty Allah. His goal was always to remain obedient to Allah.
Hafiz Redwan was also a trusted advisor, particularly on religious matters. He always sought the pleasure of Allah through pleasing his parents. He treated his father with the utmost respect and was caring and loving toward his mother. He was committed to his religious duties and was known for his high spiritual level, as he would prolong his bowing (ruku) and prostration (sujood) during prayers at the mosque. On Fridays, he would perform ablution and be the first to arrive at the mosque. He would regularly pray at night, fast, and give charity secretly. He was passionate about reviving Islamic customs and traditions.
When the anti-discrimination student movement began, Hafiz Redwan bid farewell to his family and answered the call to jihad. His soul told him that his name would be among the martyrs. So, he whispered to his mother, "I might become a martyr." He told his mother to be patient and comforted his wife, telling her to accept it. He stood in front of his mother, who opposed his departure, but his response was, "I have surrendered myself to Allah."
Martyr's Father's Statement
Death is inevitable for everyone—some die naturally, and others face unnatural deaths. But some deaths become unforgettable, and Redwan always wished for such a death. I do not mourn his death. On the contrary, I am proud to be the father of a martyr.
Hafiz Redwan's Family Situation
The current situation of Hafiz Redwan's family is dire. His wife, with their six-month-old child, now lives with his father’s family. There is no one earning in the family, and they have no permanent property. Hafiz Redwan’s two younger brothers are still studying—one in a hafiz madrasa—while his elder brother leads a separate life.
