Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative

"Bullets Fired from a Helicopter Shattered the Skull of Martyr Abu Sayed"
Md. Abu Sayed was born on January 1, 1979, in Nobo Bosti village, under Maria Union (No. 6), Boda Thana, Panchagarh District. He was a businessman by profession. His father, Abdul Khaled (deceased), was a farmer, and his mother, Sonaban (deceased), was a housewife. Abu Sayed was the second among eight siblings. Despite financial struggles, his parents managed to raise their large family with great difficulty.
Martyr's Family
Among Abu Sayed’s eight siblings, six brothers work as day laborers to support their families, while his sisters are homemakers. To escape poverty, Sayed moved to Mohammadpur, Dhaka, and started a business. Over time, his business flourished.
Sayed had two wives—his first wife lived in the village with their son, while his second wife lived with him in Dhaka. Every month, he sent a portion of his earnings to his first wife, ensuring a stable life for her and their child. He and his second wife were also living a content life in Dhaka. However, their happiness was shattered with Sayed's martyrdom.
Incident of Martyrdom
During the anti-discrimination student protests of July-August, countless innocent children, women, men, and students lost their lives, and Sayed was among them. When the quota reform movement began on July 5, tyrannical Sheikh Hasina ignored the students’ demands. Students organized one protest after another to draw the attention of Bangladesh's autocratic ruler. However, at every peaceful demonstration, the fascist government’s student-wing thugs brutally attacked protesters. On July 15 at 4 PM, when a journalist questioned Hasina about the movement, she arrogantly responded, "I will only give jobs to the grandchildren of freedom fighters."
Enraged by her statement, students launched intense protests that night. As they chanted slogans like "Who are you, who am I? Razakar, Razakar!", the government-backed Chhatra League thugs mercilessly beat them.
As the movement intensified and neither Hasina’s police force nor her goons could suppress it, on July 19, she ordered RAB to open fire from helicopters. When bullets rained down from the helicopters, people collapsed like birds shot from the sky. Even innocent children, who excitedly ran to their rooftops to see the helicopters, were shot and killed.
At that moment, Sayed had gone to a nearby store to buy polythene bags for his business. Suddenly, a bullet fired from the helicopter pierced his skull, and another hit his leg. He collapsed on the spot and died instantly. When his body was brought to his second wife’s home in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, she was so overwhelmed with grief that she fainted upon seeing him. Later, his body was taken to his ancestral home in Boda, where the entire village mourned his loss. After his funeral prayers, he was buried in his hometown.
Reactions from Relatives & Neighbors
Sayed’s neighbors expressed their grief, saying:
“What was Sayed’s fault? He was an innocent man. He never harmed anyone. If a poor person sought help, he would give whatever he could. He was a truly kind-hearted person.”
The local community demanded justice against Sheikh Hasina, while others left it in the hands of the Almighty for divine justice.
Proposal for Assistance
Sayed was the sole breadwinner of his family. His death devastated his two wives, and his only son, Mamun Islam (15), was left orphaned. His families are now struggling financially and are forced to rely on others for help.
To support his helpless wives and child, financial aid should be provided so they do not have to depend on charity. Additionally, before his death, Sayed had an outstanding debt of 150,000 BDT, which needs to be cleared.
