He is the third of four siblings. His elder brother is married and has his own family, and his elder sister is also married and a housewife. Golam Rabbani carried the dream of educating his younger brother.
Education and Work Life
In his academic life, Shaheed Golam Rabbani studied at a madrasa and worked as a day laborer alongside his studies. Choosing the work of a mason, he provided income for the family, putting the earned money into his father's hands and bringing smiles to their faces. His hard work and sense of responsibility are truly commendable.
Golam Rabbani regularly tried to offer prayers and showed deep respect to the elders. He always inquired about everyone's well-being and exchanged greetings loudly. As a ninth-grade student, the martyr's enthusiasm and self-confidence were truly unique.
Golam Rabbani's struggling life, his responsibility to his family, and his dreams have made him a unique example in society. His life story is an inspiration to today's generation, encouraging them to overcome every obstacle and move forward with courage. Shaheed Golam Rabbani, your sacrifice and struggle will live forever in our hearts.
Circumstances of Shaheed Golam Rabbani's Martyrdom
Although Shaheed Golam Rabbani was young, he always stood by his family. Besides studying in the madrasa, he used to work as a mason at various times. He would hand over the money earned from masonry to his father. All the educational institutions in the country were declared closed to suppress the anti-discrimination student movement. Due to the closure of educational institutions, he expressed his interest in going to Dhaka to work as a mason. For this, he called his friend Russell and asked if it was possible to get a mason's job in Dhaka. When his friend agreed, he went to Dhaka. In Dhaka, Shaheed Golam Rabbani worked as a mason's helper.
After working for a few days, the situation in the country took a terrible turn. Curfew was imposed across the country and the army and BGB were deployed. Meanwhile, police and Jubo League carried out armed attacks in different parts of the country and killed countless students and people. Yet, the movement could not be suppressed. The country's internet service was shut down to hide the horrific human rights violations of the Awami government from the world. A terrible situation arose in the country. The country turned into a civil war situation. Police, RAB, and BGB together started firing directly and from the air at the students and the people. Countless men and women fell into the lap of death due to the attacks of the terrorist forces. Yet, the patriotic students and people did not back down to save the country from the autocratic killer Hasina. In such a situation, all places in the country became unsafe. No one could stay safe even in their own homes. Many people were also killed by bullets that came through the window panes inside the house. Many children were also killed by bullets fired from above while playing on the roof of the house.
In such a situation, on Friday, July 19, 2014, Shaheed Rabbani finished his work and set off for home at 5:30 pm. He and his friend bought bread and bananas so that everyone could have breakfast together at home. But, as fate would have it, they never made it home. Because, at that time, the police were brutally killing students and people. Rabbani and his three friends, who were walking along the side of the main road of Rampura, fell victim to the black claws of the police. While running to escape the police bullets, Golam Rabbani was hit by a BGB fired bullet in the thigh of his right leg. He immediately fell to the ground. The black paved road turned red with blood.
Russell and some locals took him to Bonoshree Nagorik Hospital. In the hospital, like Rabbi, countless people were waiting in front of the emergency room. Not finding space there, they took Golam Rabbani to a small room at the advice of a nurse and placed him on a bed. After 10 minutes, they took him to the emergency room and the doctor tried to stop the bleeding by bandaging him. Then they called his house and informed that Rabbani had been shot. After this, they witnessed another brutal behavior of the police.
The police raided the Nagorik Hospital at ten o'clock at night and threatened the doctors on duty. The police said that action would be taken if any injured or bullet-ridden patient was treated. However, after much pleading and begging to the nurse, she allowed him to stay in a room on the third floor of the hospital until morning. The next day at ten o'clock in the morning, Rabbani was brought to Kurmitola in a rented van. After bringing him to Kurmitola Hospital, the hospital authorities decided to admit him and perform an operation. In the afternoon, before being taken to the operation theater, an attempt was made to open his bandage. As soon as the bandage was opened, profuse bleeding started. Unable to stop the blood, the hospital authorities, on the advice of a doctor from the Shyamoli Heart Institute, asked him to be taken to Shyamoli and asked to keep 5 bags of blood ready.
When he was taken to the Shyamoli Heart Institute at around 5 pm, the doctors decided to take him to the ICU immediately as the patient's condition was critical. While being taken to the ICU, the doctors found the patient unconscious. Later, after checking, they found that the patient had died due to excessive blood loss. Everyone present broke down in tears. At one point, the matter was reported home and a decision was taken to make all preparations for digging the grave. Immediately, many ambulances were searched for, but no one wanted to go for fear of trouble on the road, and some demanded more fare. At one point, after renting an ambulance for 28,000 taka, when they reached the village home at 11 o'clock at night, a heartbreaking situation was created there. A flood of people was created at the funeral.
Testimony/Feelings of Close Relatives and Friends about the Martyr
Mr. Abu Bakr, the Imam of the local mosque, said that Shaheed Golam Rabbani used to study at Purba Khamar Islamia Dakhil Madrasa. Besides studying, he also used to work as a mason in the area to support his family. Because of studying in the madrasa, he used to come to the mosque to offer prayers. Whenever he met me in the mosque or on the street, he would greet me loudly. As a boy, Golam Rabbani was incomparable. He understood the matter of supporting the family at a young age. The money he got from working as a mason, he would give it directly to his father. His father would use that money to market for the family. Golam Rabbani has been martyred today trying to do something for his family. Arrangements have been made for prayers for him in my mosque. All the Muslims of the area have gathered and prayed for him.
Proposals:
• Provide one-time financial grant to the martyr's family.
