Birth and Upbringing
Martyr Mohammad Mohtasim Hasan Fahim was born to farmer Abdul Malek Mondol and mother Umme Habiba in the village of Ramchandrapur, under Panchbibi Thana. He was the elder of two children; his younger sister is currently studying in the 9th grade at Bagjana Bohumukhi High School. Fahim was a student in the Humanities department at Hakimpur Degree College.
Incident of Martyrdom
On August 4, 2024, Fahim left for his private tutor's house. After his lessons, he joined the victory procession. During the procession, local identified Awami terrorists abducted him and detained him in the house of Hakimpur Municipal Mayor Zahid Hossain Chalon. Later, when enraged citizens set fire to the mayor's house, Fahim, who was confined inside, was burned alive.
Details of the Incident
At that time, the anti-discrimination student movement was at its peak. The government had imposed curfews nationwide and unleashed security forces along with Awami League-Chhatra League goons against the general student populace. Determined to cling to power at any cost, the government resorted to using tear gas, rubber bullets, live ammunition, snipers, and helicopters, resulting in thousands of deaths.
On August 3, the movement's coordinator, Nahid Islam, announced a one-point movement demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. Initially scheduled for August 6, the "Long March to Dhaka" was advanced to August 5. On that day, clashes, chases, and shootings occurred in many districts, leading to the deaths of 108 civilians and police officers.
On August 5, Prime Minister Hasina resigned in the face of a mass uprising and fled the country, ending her over 15 years of autocratic fascist rule. Celebrations erupted nationwide, and victory processions began in every alley. On that day, after his private lessons, Fahim joined the victory procession. However, despite Hasina's flight, her goons remained. Local identified Awami terrorists abducted Fahim and another individual from the procession and detained them in the mayor's house. The building's doors were locked with a finger lock, indicating a planned detention.
Upon hearing of the abduction, enraged citizens surrounded the mayor's house. Unable to find the detainees, they set the building on fire. From the afternoon, Fahim's family found his mobile phone switched off. As evening turned to night, they were unable to contact him, causing great concern. Finally, at 11:30 PM, Fahim's cousin was informed of his martyrdom. Upon reaching the mayor's house, Fahim's family found Fahim’s and Ashaduzzaman Noor Surjo's bodies.
However, on August 19, Fahim's elder brother, Mohammad Sujan, filed a murder case at Hakimpur Police Station, bringing different allegations. The case details that on August 4, around 2:30 PM, students protested in Hakimpur Municipal Town as part of the anti-discrimination movement. Under the direction of former MP Shibli Sadiq, Awami League leaders and activists attacked the students at the Hili Railway Station platform. They abducted and tortured several students, including Ashaduzzaman Noor, Nafiz, Mostakim Mehedi, Mahidul, and Babu Ahmed. Later, Ashaduzzaman and Fahim were taken to the mayor's house, where they were physically tortured, leading to their deaths. The perpetrators then attempted to dispose of the bodies by setting them on fire. The fire service later recovered their bodies from the mayor's house.
Feelings of the Martyr's Relatives
Fahim was a well-mannered and devout boy who respected elders and cared for younger ones. He was diligent and regular in his studies. On the day of the incident, he joined the victory procession after his lessons.
Family's Economic Condition
They live in a mud-built tin house. His father, a farmer, managed the household with a modest income.
