Incident Details & Martyrdom Narrative
On February 20, 1981, Martyr Md. Ziaur Rahman was born in the hamlet of Narabari Munsipara, which is located in Biral Upazila of Dinajpur District and is under Bhatra Union No. 6. His mother was the late Khaleda Begum, and his father was the late Abdul Kafi. There are five brothers of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. The settlement of Narabari Munsipara is surrounded by a border. Beside the settlement, the Darail Bill flows. The affectionate, shadowed village has been made more beautiful by the numerous tiny and large ponds and ditches. During his early years, Shaheed Mohammad Ziaur Rahman lived in a picturesque village.
There are numerous litchi orchards in the town. Maybe he spent his last days of childhood strolling along the village paths, eating the litchi of the honey month of Joishtho, and relaxing under the shade of the orchard trees. On hot summer afternoons, he might have been cool in the village's ponds and ditches. As the village is described, a few lines from Palli Kobi Jasimuddin's well-known poem "Nimontron" unconsciously spring to mind:
“You will go, brother, go with me, to our small village,
In the shade of trees, among the leaves and vines,
in the breeze of the wild forest;
Embraced by affection and tenderness,
My house is filled, In mother's bosom,
in sister's affection, in brother's shadow of love,
You will go, brother, go with me, to our small village.â€
The selfless sacrifice of the uncompromising Shaheed Mohammad Ziaur Rahman
Shaheed Mohammad Ziaur Rahman completed his studies and started his career in the readymade garment sector. He had been living in Dhaka with his family for a long 25 years. He was last working as a Quality Control Officer at Florence Group. The people of Bangladesh lived with unbearable pain throughout the entire reign of the autocrat Hasina. What was not there in the reign of the killer Hasina! Extrajudicial killings and disappearances, loan defaults, reserve theft, smuggling of the country's money abroad, a grand festival of irregularities in the education sector, a dilapidated state of the health sector, and the price of daily necessities increasing at an alarming rate due to the failure to control the market!
Ziaur Rahman and others had their backs against the wall, and that is why when the movement to overthrow the autocratic government became more and more intense, he himself, as and when he had the opportunity, expressed solidarity with the students and the people, and regularly participated in all the programs. He used to go to the movement while maintaining a lot of secrecy at home. Sometimes he would say, "There is office work." But after coming home, he would proudly tell his wife, except for his two children, about the events of the day's movement. Although his wife Shahnaz initially objected, she could not stop him later seeing his determined attitude.
Finally, on August 5, he left home to make the 'Long March to Dhaka' program a success, which was a one-point program of the anti-discrimination student movement. When their procession reached the Uttara Azampur area, the over-enthusiastic bloodthirsty police started firing indiscriminately at the common people participating in the long march. The killer police bullet pierced the left side of Ziaur Rahman's chest and came out from the back. He immediately fell to the ground in a bloody state. A colleague of his took him to a nearby hospital. But after not getting treatment there, they hurriedly took him to the Cancer Hospital from there. Later, Ziaur Rahman, who was in critical condition, was transferred to Dhaka Medical College from there. After fighting with death for four long days, he finally breathed his last on August 9 at 7:20 pm.
Free air, I breathe as much as I can, you are remembered, the pride of all nations!
Feelings of the martyr's wife's brother
Shahnaz Akhtar, the martyr's wife, said, "I may not be able to describe and explain what my husband was like. I learned from seeing him how humble a person can be. He used to offer salat regularly and encouraged me too. He tried to follow the basic rules of Islam. He had a cordial relationship with everyone. He was also different from everyone in terms of self-respect."
His elder brother said about the martyr, "Ziaur was the fourth among our five brothers. He had been living in Dhaka for 25 years due to work. His simple life impressed us. Now his two children have become orphans. I want to wait until the last day of my life and see the trial of this brutal murder."
Economic Condition of the Martyr's Family
Martyr Mohammad Ziaur Rahman was the sole breadwinner of his family, providing a comfortable living. His untimely death has devastated his family. His wife plans to leave their rented apartment in Dhaka due to financial constraints and return to their ancestral home. Ziaur Rahman had begun constructing a house there, but the work halted midway. The family will now reside in this incomplete house. Additionally, his son, Saraf Hossain, must leave his beloved 'Sunrise Public School,' along with his younger sister, Jafna.

"And the robot was not made, Antor did not get to say his last words to his mother. This warrior silently gave his life to build a free country. It is as if a boy with immense potential silently withered away from the country."
"He was kicked several times in the chest with boots."
