Driven by necessity, left his hometown of Barguna and moved to the industrial zone of Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka. There, he worked as a skilled designer at two prominent garment companies—S. Suhi Industrial Park Ltd. and Pretty Industrial Park Ltd. His intricate designs adorned clothes exported around the world. But beyond career success, his primary goal remained clear: to support his family.

Their only daughter, Tabassum Islam Tuba, studies in Class 8 at Barguna Secondary Collegiate School. dreams revolved entirely around her future. The family did not own any property and lived in a rented house. Since his death, they have become emotionally and financially shattered. “We have no one left,” Mariam murmurs with a hollow voice.
The Movement & His Participation
In July–August 2024, Bangladesh's streets surged with protest. What began as a student-led demand to reform the quota system evolved into a nationwide uprising. Years of misrule, injustice, and suppression brought millions to the streets. With the slogan “This is our country, the decisions must be ours,” joined the protest. August 5, 2024, became an unforgettable day. The fall of the oppressive Hasina regime was announced, and Ashulia’s streets erupted in victorious celebration.

Between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, as jubilant processions marched through the Bypass Road in Jamgora, gunfire suddenly broke out. Bullets were fired directly at the victory rally—not as warning shots, but as targeted killings. was in the front line when a bullet struck his chest. He collapsed in the middle of the street. Amid screams, panic, and tears, his breathing stopped before help could arrive.
A fellow protester recalled:
"Riaz Bhai used to say— ‘I want my daughter to grow up to be a good human being.’ Now that little girl is fatherless."
Family in Mourning
His father, Hatem Ali Howlader, now around 70, sat by his son’s grave and said, “People earn to build homes, to raise children. I buried my son in the soil instead.” His mother, Bilkich Begum, weeps endlessly, whispering: “He used to call me ‘Ma’ so sweetly. I’ll never hear that again.”
A Legacy of Blood and Bravery
Blood did not just stain the streets; it awakened the nation's conscience. His sacrifice has written a chapter in our history. May we never forget—this country was built on the blood of martyrs like him, who gave up everything so others might win. We bow our heads in deep respect and love to the memory of Martyr Md. Islam.
Economic Proposals
Family now struggles to survive. His wife Mariam and daughter Tuba face an uncertain future. In his memory, and to support his surviving loved ones, we propose:

2. Construction of a permanent house for the family.
